The HP Omnibook XE3 laptop (Notebook) has a 1.06-MHz Intel Pentium III processor.
The laptop has a 14" LCD screen 512 MB of RAM and a 30GB hard drive which is plenty for a laptop. It contains a DVD drive and an Intel modem of 56-Kbps. It also comes with the latest from the Microsoft widows series, Microsoft Windows XP, which is extremely easy to use and the layout is superb. It has built in speakers and a built in floppy drive. It has many ports these include, mouse port, PS/2 keyboard, infared port, two USB and many more. It has a built in microphone, which fare enough isn't that useful it's still fun to play around with.
The laptop contains a touchpad, like all laptops, this I find is very tricky to get to grips with but wants your used to it you may even enjoy more than a mouse.
The good thing about this laptop is it has a dvd drive so you can watch movies on the go, for instants on a train. The 30GB hard drive is plenty of room for applications to be stored. It also contains plenty of RAM which wont need upgrading for a while.
The only dislike I really have with this laptop is that although it looks small it weighs 7.4 pounds so it gets rather heavy. Remember looks can be deceiving
I bought this in the September of last year for about £900 which is an absolute bargin in my oppinion. It is still that price as it hasn't been out for that long.
The instruction manual is extremley easy to use but you don't really need to use it because the layout of Windows XP is just so easy to follow.
So overall I think this is a good laptop which contains good, built in speakers, a dvd drive- Which are good for watching movies. The battery is supposed to last for 3-4 hours but I could only get it to last for 2 hours-which is still long enough for a film. And finally games play as good as on a normal computer so I would defiantly go out and buy this.
Advantages: Compact, good value for money Disadvantages: Not the quickest machine, small HDD.
Overall, this is an excellent budget laptop, ideal for a student such as myself, due to the very reasonable price tag, and the compact nature of the unit.
This laptop is ideal for tasks such as word processing, desktop publishing, as well as various other office tasks.
If you're after a gaming machine however, this isn't the tool for the job. This is due to the relatively slow 700MHz processor, accompainied by a meagre 64MB RAM, although this can ... ...graphics also ensures that this machine is only really suited to office orientated tasks.
The 12.1" screen gives excellent clarity and colour definition as far as laptop screens go, although the max resolution supported is a mere 800 by 600, due to the fact that the screen is 12" rather than the conventional 13, or 14".
As far as connectivity goes, we only have a modem built in, I'd have preferred to see a built in network interface, although this ...

...had problems, first of all HP hadn't made the screen properly, one of the connections was broken, and then it turned out the motherboard was faulty. The adaptor cable I was provided with was also faulty.
It's a nice laptop with a 14 inch screen, a Celeron processor, 128Mb RAM, only a 9Gb Hard drive, touchpad and Windows XP. It also has battery which has a 4 hour lifetime. The instruction manual that comes with it is very thorough and the troubleshooting ... ...installed 256Mb more memory and HP fixed the probelms, after they managed to break my touchpad fixing the motherboard.
As for the weight, I find it very accessible and take it with me wherever comfortably.
Overall the laptop is a good buy though you may require a larger hard drive. Only if you want to have any after sales service HP might not be your first port of call. ...
