Didn't want to mess about having loads of different machines hooked up to my laptop, (it is supposed to be portable, Ha!) so went to PC World on a mission to find a machine that did it all in one.
We didn't get there till 5.15pm so only had 15mins to get what I was looking for, as I was determined to go home with a printer so I could have a play with it on the evening. (Saturday nites can be rubbish on tv!)
There was a whole bunch of 3 in 1 printers on sale, at various prices. I ended up with HP psc all-in-one, printer. scanner. copier. It was on special offer aswell!

* Windows CD * Macintosh CD * User (Reference) Guide * Print Cartridges (Black and Colour) * Power adapter and cord * Control-panel overlay (may be attached)
It does show a picture of a USB cable with a caption under it saying, * The contents of your box may differ. Mine did, it didn't have one. Which was rather annoying because I didn't have a USB cable at home.

That's all the technical jargon over with. On getting started, the printer was well wrapped up, inside and out. The Set-up booklet is very well documented on the packaging, which I found really helpful, as there was so much of it, in every nook and cranny. Glad to be able to check I'd removed it all! The booklet runs through a step by step guide on setting up the printer to the mains and putting in the cartridges. Although the booklet made putting in the cartridges look and sound easy, I found it quite a struggle to put them in. I have an epson printer, which is easy to install the ink. I had a shock with the HP. Was fiddling about for quite a while! Finally, after inserting the cartridges and closing the access door, the printer churns out a print cartridge alignment page. On receiving this page, it goes on to tell you to scan this sheet. After the On light stops blinking, the alignment is complete. Great, already to go! Or so it would seem!!
Remember the fact that I had no USB cable in the box. What annoyed me the most with this fact, is that, the guy who served me told me I had everything I needed to connect the printer to my computer in the box. I did pacifically ask that question!! On returning to the shop on the Sunday, he said we naturally presume that you have other computers at home so would already have a USB cable! Dahh! How can anybody presume to know what you have at home? Why didn't he ask me to find out? I do in fact have another computer at home but it's that old, it doesn't use USB ports. Bad customer service on his part, me thinks!
Anyway, moan over. The next step was to turn on my computer and insert the correct disc, which in my case was the windows CD. Connect the USB cable and double-click the HP All-in-one installer. Off it goes and installs the printer extremely fast. Congratulations! Your up and running.
Also on the Start-up CD installs the HP Director and HP Photosmart software and also has a read-me file. Comes also, with the usual book full of info on how to use and get the best out of your HP. This, I found was easy to read and use. There is plenty of help available to the HP. Also, if you registar with HP on the net, they constantly check that you receive updates for your equipment. Go here for any internet or technical help aswell. (www. hp.com/support). They ask you to take part in surveys aswell!
As mentioned previously, I installed the ink carridges that was supplied with the printer. When I bought the printer, I was told that the cartridges are not full of ink, like the ones that you buy. They are purely to get you started. So I purchased extra cartridges. One black and one coloured. Just in case. I have used up a full realm of paper and well into my 2nd and have not yet changed the cartridges on the printer. That's printing off letters, info off the net and an awful lot of photo's. I consider this to be excellent usage, as the cartridges do work out expensive for the brand name. I do know that they you can get an unknown named ink catridges for this printer though. As you can with other brands. The price of the cartridges, which I've included at the end, in my personal view, are expensive for the HP brand but the prices are in comparison to other brands, e.g. Epson. They all screw you for the ink!
Overall, I have had no problems with this equipment at all! I would greatly recommend this to anyone, (which I already have to a few friends). It was extremely easy to install and very easy to use. It's mainly self explanatary by the buttons on the top of the equipment or you can use the HP director software. I have found it to be extremely reliable. (Unlike my previous printer which kept jamming the paper all the time and used an awful lot of ink, but that's another matter.) The only thing I can say against it, is the fact that is slightly on the bulky side.
Really pleased with my choice!!!
The Printer Price : £119.99 Colour Cartridge : £23.99 Black Cartridge : £17.99
Tip : Look out for deals on buying the cartridges!! Worth buying in extras when these are on. e.g 3 for 2 etc..

It says you can print up to 450 pages with one black cartridge but I get on average 300 pages.
The printer works through USB (both USB 1.1 and 2.0 compatible) to transfer photos and documents to the printer at high speed.

Advantages: 3 in 1, stand alone photo copier Disadvantages: scanner lid doesnt have floating hinges
...good quality and comes with HP software for photo printing, editing and scanning. The scanner has good OCR text recognition much better than my old scanner; there are very few random symbols where letter aren't recognised. The only problem is that the lid hinge is fixed, hence it only close fully with a few sheets of paper in.
I print most documents in normal mode 600dpi, and rough work in fast normal 300dpi both give good quality printing.
