I bought this HP all-in-one printer/scanner/copier quite recently, and I have to say I'm very pleased with it. It offers great value for money, and does everything you need. It also came with a black & white cartridge and a colour cartridge which normally cost about the same price as I paid for this printer. So essentially the printer was free! (Around £50).
The main drawbacks with it are that as it's the entry level all-in-one and so the features are basic. For example I think you would get a much better scanner if you bought a stand alone. What you get with this is a basic scanner, photocopier, and very good printer which for me is all I need. I do some scanning, but not alot, and it is very handy to have a copier for the odd occasion I need it. It saves going to the local shop with 5p only to find it's out of service. The printer is fairly quick and very good quality.
The only real problem I find with this is the software that it uses. There seem to be many different ways of, say, using the scanner, depending on which bit you go into using the onscreen devices. And you get different results for each one. So I think that could be much simpler. There are some good things about the software, for example it will tell you how much ink you've got left in each cartridge, and you can use it to clean the printing heads quite easily if they need it. Basically you use the software to do everything. It's not quite like the old printers where you just plug it in and press print. It's a little more complicated until you get the hang of it. Although I don't see why it should be. So I'm marking it down for this.
It seems to me that you can now buy some very good printers or all-in-one devices like this very inexpensively, and they do work very well. As far as this particular device goes I would recommend it, although the next one up from this doesn't cost much more and you will get a slightly better scanner etc, so it depends what you want it for. Personally this one works fine for me. You might want something with a digital camera card reader on it to print off photos which this doesn't include, but as I said other models do so look around.
One more thing. I have not so far needed to change either ink cartridge so I don't know how much they cost. I understand they are more than say Lexmark, but last longer. I will let you know when it finally does need changing!
