So why did I buy a Hewlett Packard Pavilion, was it because there was a nice bloke trying to sell me the PC??? No it wasn’t it was because the computer itself does look nice.

We have two computers in our house, one is a HP Pavilion 8775, and the other is a laptop. We never use the desktop PC anymore as after buying a laptop its so much easier.

I thought id give you my views on the HP Pavilion, it is a nice computer, we have had it for about 2 years now. It’s never gone wrong.
We bought it from PC World we took out extra insurance get in case of these little accidents, or if it needed repairing, so it cost just under £1300.
The insurance still has till 05/06 till it runs out, so in my eyes it was well worth paying the extra to get it covered.

With this it came with an Intel webcam, defiantly not the greatest of webcams for wanting to take pictures, they do not come out very well. The webcam is white, and blue looks nice enough, and fits to the top of the monitor.

It also came with a Lexmark Z32 colour printer, the printing was good. We often used it, it was a great printer until the ink ran out and we haven’t got round to buying new ink for it.

The monitor is an official Hewlett Packard monitor it is a 17 inch monitor, so it was weird at first as the screen was bigger than what we had.
The monitor is white, it is a big on the big and bulky side of things. Especially as you can get those slim plasma screen ones. Makes it look a bit out of date.
One the front of the monitor you have their logo on the top left hand corner.
At the bottom you have the buttons to alter the colour, contrast, it has a mode button so you can select settings, the button to turn your monitor off is there – it’s the last one on the right.
It also has a built in microphone.

The keyboard I loved the keyboard its still a official Hewlett Packard keyboard. The best bit about this keyboard for me is you have a volume switch on it, so you can control the volume on the keyboard.

There are other gadgets on the keyboard. One that left hand side you have standby, help, shortcut 1 and shortcut 2. (With them you can set them to want you want it to shortcut too)
At the top you have sub sections, under documents there’s 3 buttons, A find, print, and fax button.
Next to that is Internet section, the buttons you have are shopping, entertainment, search, news email, and you also have a connect to the Internet button.
And lastly on the right next to the internet buttons you have CD/DVD buttons, play, stop, rewind, fast forward, pause, mute and right at the end my favourite the adjustable volume button

The lay out apart from the additional functions ive just mentioned on the keyboard is the same, you have all the letters in the same place, numbers, the F1-F12 keys are there.
Everything else is where it should be.

The mouse, is the best one ive actually used, there are so many different ones you can buy now without wires, but I was happy to still have one with a wire, it had its 2 click buttons (Left and Right) but in-between them it had a roller button, where you could scroll down the page instead of having to click down the page.
It’s defiantly a mouse id recommend, id use it on this laptop but there’s no need for it as we have a touch pad.

The speakers, are nothing to special they get attached to the side of the monitor, they just click onto the sides.

The operating system is Microsoft Windows Millennium, it has on it Microsoft Works, Microsoft Money, Microsoft Encarta, Encyclopedia. The one I only use and still do on the laptop is Microsoft Works. Yep you guessed it, to write up my Ciao reviews on.

The memory of this computer is not to great, we had to add a little extra memory too it. It only came with 64MB, I think we upped it too 94MB. Still not great but it does for about we need it for which isn’t a lot really.

It has a CD-Rewriter and a DVD player, the CD-Rewrite is great, I use to copy lots to disks without any problems. I never really played any DVD’s on there, so not to sure on the quality, but im sure it is okay.
It has 2 USB ports, which if you wanted broadband they come in handy.

The tower part of the computer is nice looking its white and dark grey in colour.
It has from the top to the bottom CD Re-Writer, DVD Player, and disk drive. It has at the bottom 1 USB port. Other is at the back

It has a built in modem/fax
The graphics are good on the computer, obviously there are much better computers out now as there getting better by the minute… All they need to invent is one that can do housework aswell, would suit me :O) Oh and the ironing that be great.

I won’t give you all the jargon of the computer as im not reviewing that side of it, plus I don’t know if it’s just me, but that doesn’t mean anything to me.
Just like miles have to be put in to hours and minutes, as then I understand how long it will be.

Anyway back to the computer………

I did buy a scanner with this, and it worked perfectly.

The downsides to the computer, the monitor being very big and heavy, it does need a lot of space. Doesn’t have that much memory, but its great first time computer. We have decided to keep it so the kids when they’re older can use it. Another downside is all the wires it has to have.

But all in all it’s a great computer, we have never had to have it repaired, it’s never broken. It works well on broadband, which we thought it might have problems with. As the laptop we have we are always having endless problems with.

One thing which I like is if the wires came out at the back, they are colour coded, I don’t know if that’s on all computers but I think it is a great idea, as I can safely say I can put them all back into the right place without blowing the computer up.
They probably made they like that for people like me that hasn’t got a clue about computers and would be totally stuck if all wires came out and wasn’t colour coded.

This is my first review in trying to review a computer so I hope ive been helpful
Thank you for reading my review
