I recently accquired the HP Pavilion dv6331eu in an exchange with John Lewis for my old laptop, which had broken down. I am currently writing this review using my HP Pavilion and I must say so far so good. I have taken a personal shine to this laptop immediately and is a vast improvement from my last laptop, which was not very old at all.
This laptop has been expertly designed and finished to have an extremely pleasing cosmetic look and style even before the lid is opened. With its black exterior, polished black lid and screen mount and the silver keyboard surround it looks very classy, elegant and expensive. The presentation is complimented with the touch controls for sound and quickplay to emphasise the top of the range essence that it beams. The final cosmetic feature of this laptop is the handy slim remote control. I personally love this feature as it comes in useful for turning the computer on and for controlling many of the entertainment and quickplay functions, as well as sound control. The extremely slim remote is a very stylish thing on its own to add to the overall presentational effect this laptop oozes.
Like nearly all new computers now the HP Pavilion comes with Windows Vista pre-installed. There seems to be many critics against Windows Vista and I must admit I am one of them. Windows Vista seems to only really change the layout and upgrade the desktop appearence, from what I have found Vista has just changed the look of most things to do with the laptop while keeping the same features but presented in a different way. This results in immediate confusion until you manage to work out the layout and the ins and outs of the system (which should in fairness only take about a week for computer literate people). However, the main disadvantage with Windows Vista is that it means many programmes either do not work or some features of the progamme do not work properly. In spite of this, programmes that are made by Microsoft, like Office, should run but may need patching files off the internet to run some features. I personally see Vista as a drawback and does not compliment this computer in the way it should.
As described earlier some of the features I love include the touch controls and the remote control, which help to achieve the effect that this is a truly fantastic entertainment system. Another feature I adore is the integrated web camera positioned centrally above the screen. It is useful for me because I use a web cam often on the computer, it is also at just the right height for me when sitting on my chair, which is helpful. HP have added a great feature in the cam and built on these foundations by not just adding any cam but a 1.3 MP web cam, which is very sharp and accurate; it is better than most reasonably priced cams on the market. The final aspect of the cam to describe is the little blue light next to the cam, this means that now people do not need to struggle to get enough light for their cam to show themselves and means no more hot lamps. The light is good because it is bright enough to give off the right amount of light without being intrusive. Other good features include the bright screen display and the 5-in-1 card reader.
As mentioned earlier along with my feelings towards it was the fact that this laptop runs on Windows Vista if bought new now, which is not particularly an advantage. It comes with a 160GB hard drive, I think this is ample hard drive space and I certainly would never run out. The HP Pavilion dv6331 runs on a AMD Turion64 processor that is a dual core processor. It of course has wireless technology for connecting to the internet on the move. It has 2GB of Ram, this a good size. The computer also has DVD±RW disc re-writer, always useful to have. The laptop takes about an hour and a half to charge and it has a battery life, depending on which power plan you use, of two and a half hours. It has three power plans for the laptop, one is a high performance but low battery life plan, another is low performance but with a greater battery life and the third is the HP recommended power plan, which is a bit of a go between.
I personally love this computer and for the price I think it is a fair deal. Within a price boundry this would certainly be a contender for my favourite laptop. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get the most out of their machine and possibly their wallet., a superb choice of laptop.
Advantages: Excellent as an entertainment centre, good sound and picture quality Disadvantages: Shows early signs of wear and tear, very poor battery
This laptop was bought for me by my parents as an aid for my University studies and to allow them to regain control of the PC!
It is a functional and well-equipped piece of technology. Without doubt it is a 'Media Centre' as it's title suggests, as it comes with Power Cinema, Windows Media Player and more already installed. It also comes with an excellent and easy to work webcam.
I had no difficulties in learning how to use all aspects of this ... ...experienced one or two problems with it.
It is necessary to leave it plugged into the mains when using it, and thus it becomes very hot and uncomfortable on ones knee. This is because the laptop's battery only lasts about an hour - which can become frustrating at times. I have also had constant problems with the touch-pad mouse. It locks itself and the only way to reset it is to turn off the computer.
Nor has this laptop lasted as well as I would ...

Quick review of HP Pavilion Media Center Dv6331eu
I have owned the HP dv600 series notebook for about 6 months now, initially brought for the sleek, smart design. It certainly does not fail to please in terms of quality and power either, a real easy to use laptop. The inbuilt webcam and microphone are a real plus. Having DVD touch pad controls above the keyboard is a really good idea. I have been unable to find any downsides to this product and would definatly buy it again. I brought this product from the HP website and payed for the 3 year guarantee which overall worked out cheapest and it was delivered next day. ...

...have had and reading forums HP have not been open with what has been causing the faults with this models motherboard Nvidia chips. So If you don't want to waste you time calling HP to get them to repair it then don't buy it. There is nothing else I can say about the laptop it is not worth buying and I would prefer not to let HP away with what they did by people not buying this laptop and making the fix the problems with it. I found it unfair that ...
