When I was looking for an upgrade for my Pentium (100 mhz) computer. I definitely wanted more speed and better performance from my computer. But I didn't want to spend over $1000 USD on the system. After looking at ads on television and looking in many electronics stores I found what I was looking for at my local Walmart store. I read the box and found that this 'new' system looked very good. I asked several questions of the electronics person and purchased the system. Which was $799 USD plus tax. Which was better then expected I was thrilled.
When I got it home and turned in on the updating of the system was incredible. I heard some bad things about 'Celeron' processors. But once I got on the internet the speed was amazing. I had also read the mhz was 700 and that added to the speed. The minus side to being a package is that they don't come with printers or too many extras. This system had a 17" color printer w/speakers, keyboard, and CD/DVD player. The unit also has a 30 gig hard drive and 128 RAM. So I really was impressed with this system.
Even though the 'Celeron' processor is slighty slower than the 'Pentium' chip. The only real difference is that graphics don't load as fast. I knew that I wasn't really using alot of graphics programs. So that was perfect for my situation. In regards to the mhz the higher the number the faster it goes. If you get a 1 gig Pentium 3 chip you have a Ferrari. The 30 gig hard drive is plenty of room for almost everyone for home use. There are exceptions if you running alot of graphic intense programs and/or photo programs at the same time. As to RAM-Random Access Memory that is used when loading programs or applications. The higher the RAM, the more applications can be used at the same time.
The monitor has a great picture and many different options for clarity and color. The down side is that the monitor is very hard and deep. Making it impossible for you to position near the wall. The CD/DVD is 8x and that is great for listening to music or movies from your computer in the middle of the night. Just make sure you have headphones plugged in and speakers disconnected. The speakers so clear and crisp that the sound was amazing. And they attach to the monitor for great sound and balance. The keyboard is one touch meaning that with one key you can connent to the internet and/or your favorite sites.
The only down side that I could find to this system is that it showed a printer on the box. But upon further inspection of the contents. This system didn't have one with this package. So for $50 USD, I went out and bought one. Remember when purchasing your first computer system. Read and research everything you find regarding computer systems at the store. And use the salespeople to your advantage. Ask questions of them-that's what they are there for. Don't be imtimidated and then know what you want from your system. It looks like a daunting task. When you get the information, you will have a clear picture of what you need.
Good op, and good choice- the Celeron is just fine if you're after a better-value system- the difference between it and a Pentium is often over-stated and it has the same Intel quality and reliability.
