A well designed, high quality affordable laptop, the HP pavilion dv5 doesn't fail to please in looks, performance or price. In terms of look and design, flashy is a good word for it. It has a glossy black case which shines in the light, then you open it. The keyboard-surround is split horizontally: the bottom half is very light silver with a white check pattern, and the upper half perforated silver plastic. Around the edge of the laptop, there is a chrome-effect strip which sparkles and shimmers. Even the mouse pad has a finish that is so reflective you can see your face in it. This is the 'bling-bling' of the laptop world. It also feels pretty solid, I don't think you would be able to break it easily and I have faith in it's durability and robustness. It is also quite light, weighing 2.65kg, not bad for a laptop it's size.
Ok, so onto function:
The keyboard is pretty high quality, it is quite big for a laptop and doesn't leave you feeling like you might as well just put handcuffs on and be done with it. It is very responsive and the keys are also quite large (good for those with podgy fingers.)
The mousepad is pretty good too, it is responsive, accurate and of a failrly large size. It also has one of those buttons which turn the laptop off which is a godsend (I'm sure anyone who has owned a laptop will join me in annoyance at having to keep moving the cursor back to the end of the document after realising you have accidentally knocked the mousepad and were typing a load of rubbish somewhere in the middle.
Output devicesThe screen is amazingly clear. It only has a 1,280 x 800 resolution (pretty average) but has much better than average brightness and colour accuracy. The speakers are quite good as well, the sound is very high quality and the laptop packed an impressive max volume way above what you would need for average speaker use.
Performance
Word processing is more it's forte, the laptop isn't quite up to high performance tasks such as gaming (as I found out to my displeasure) so if you are looking for something to play games on the move, this isn't for you. But it's fine for all office tasks.
================================================Overall , a good quality laptop well worth the price if you are looking for something to do your work on.
