(+) cool and quite robust trackpad, good display,64-bit windows 7 (-) few connectors, dell drivers only, not realy for gameing (most models), finger print prone!
Advantages: Touchscreen, Fingerprint, Multimedia Functions, Remote, Webcam, Drawing Disadvantages: Hot, Heavy, Not friendly for Linux Users
I've had this tablet for a good year now and although I do have some complaints, the pros certainly outweigh the cons.
Let me start with the Pros:
The Tablet touch screen allows for a 180 degree rotation which is useful if you want to carry the laptop in your arms and jotting things down on the move.
The Touchscreen itself is great. Using the stylus, it is very accurate and is capable of left click, right click ... ...finger touch in case using the pen bothers you. I found these capabilities extremely useful as a university student, continuously jotting down notes. I even downloaded software that enables me to note down on documents on the web so using pen and paper is now obsolete!
There is fingerprint scanner for security measures too so that's a plus!
As for multimedia, this laptop perfect still. It has a remote control and media ... more
I've had this tablet for a good year now and although I do have some complaints, the pros certainly outweigh the cons.
Let me start with the Pros:
The Tablet touch screen allows for a 180 degree rotation which is useful if you want to carry the laptop in your arms and jotting things down on the move.
The Touchscreen itself is great. Using the stylus, it is very accurate and is capable of left click, right click and even middle click to scroll! The screen also accommodates finger touch in case using the pen bothers you.
It has a remote control and media buttons (play, stop, rewind...etc.) along the screen. What I found was particularly useful was that it has two jacks for headphones so two people can listen at once if say, your watching a movie in the plane or long bus journey.
Wireless internet is sound as you can expect and the webcam works fine too although there may be issues with flickers and such. Most are resolved with new drivers and patch fixes though.
Another useful feature is that is can read SD cards directly.
One aspect I loved was drawing. If you have Photoshop or Gimp or somesort of CAD software, the laptop can be very rewarding. Ever tried drawing with a mouse - suicidal :P
The cons:
This laptop is heavier than most laptops of this size. It has only a 12.1 inch screen but it weighs like a 15 inch.
It also gets hot. Really hot. If you plan on having this on your knees all the time, get something else. This is really not what you want if your that much of a traveler.
The battery life isn't amazing either. If you happen to be traveling loads, make sure to scale down your applications and turn your brightness way down.
This laptop is suitable for the majority who need something to write their emails, play the occasional games, surf the web, watch movies, listen to music...etc. On the other hand, if you're a hard-core traveler and don't care to much for extra functions, go for a netbook instead.
The tx2500 series uses a Radeon HD3200 graphics card which is not high-end. You can get battlefield 1942 going, WOW, half-life and Left 4 Dead and even Empire: Total War (albeit pretty slow) working if you scale down to low graphics option but anything newer... I'll be surprised. Call Of Duty did run, but very poorly.
Running on a linux operating system is very tricky in the beginning, especially getting the touchscreen running. If you don't use linux, this doesnt matter.
Advantages: Nice touch screen, good keyboard, good for students who need to draw diagrams Disadvantages: Screen glare is bad, can't seemuch in sunlight, vista slows it down
I want to point out first that this is not a gaming laptop. If you keep that in mind when you buy or try this out then you will enjoy using this laptop.
The laptop only has a 12.1" screen, however this is big enough to be able to see everything on it clearly and I think that the screen is very good, especially for a tablet pc which usually have rubbish screens. I also like buttons that are set all around the screen and the usability of the laptop. ... ...touch pad is good and sensitive and can be locked so when you are writing on the screen it doesn't interfere. The keyboard is a decent size and feels solid. The laptop does however have its flaws, the screen gets dirty too quickly, it is difficult to see in high natural light and sunlight, and vista makes the laptop very slow for a dual core, 2GB pc. Overall however this laptop is easily the best value for money tablet pc that you are going to be ...
