If you need a point-and-shoot foolproof camera, then this is the one for you!
I got this camera when I was getting into the field of photography and it helped me adjust to digital photography and what to expect. I would recommend this camera to anyone now getting their feet wet in the world of digital photography.
It has no optical zoom, so the second you start to zoom in, the picture looses quality, and at an astounding rate.
At 1.5", the LCD is tiny - but then again, this is an entry-level camera from the days when digital was still growing on some consumers.
At 3.1MP, I don't expect a lot of resolution, but I do expect true colour (or at least very close to it) and very little pixelation.
Boy, was I wrong.
If you plan on using this camera, DON'T use the zoom - it distorts your image a lot!
I particularly liked this camera for its ease of use - just slide back the lens cover and it's ready to go - just like that. Of course, its response time was off, but this was not designed for runway models and studio-use - this camera was an entry-level camera, with enough features to get you going.
The flash was very meagre and did not do anything for poor light environments.
The menu system was very easy to use and the first time I took it out of the box, I was taking pictures in seconds - without the manual.
When it comes to electronics, except for TVs, pc monitors and displays, smaller is better, and this camera was very small. It was as thick as two AA batteries (which it used) and about as tall as one. It fit in the palm of my hand very easily and because of its small size, I actually used the supplied wrist strap.
When it came to durability, this camera was a surprise - for a while, at least. Through dust, hours in the sunlight with no case (okay, so I forgot the camera case in my pickup while I was out) and heat, this camera worked rather well - just remember to clean the lens with a lense cleaner and NOT kleenex, as I had to remind one engineer. However, the camera fell victim to a cheap tripod - one of the legs was worn out and the entire assembly fell and the camera's battery compartment cover went another way from the camera. So, a hi-tech camera fell victim to the handyman secret weapon: duct tape.
Even after surviving a fall, the camera still worked wonderfully, but its reliability took a sharp blow, cutting off during picture transfers and sometimes when taking pictures.
However, HP has stopped making this camera, so if you come across this camera, I would recommend it as a gift - give someone else this camera. Trust me, they may not appreciate a 3.1MP camera, but they would appreciate how simple it makes digital photography.

I brought this camera for my wife just over 2 years ago, and although we have purchased a couple of other digital cameras since then, my wife still prefers the 435 to anything else we have. One of the main reasons is the ease of taking pictures, you don't have to have a degree in computer science to use it as the manual is straight foreward and very easy to follow, if thats not enough the cameras onboard memory has HELP sections under all the categories ... ...if you get stuck whilst out and about you don't have to worry about going back home for the manual so you can adjust the settings you just use the HELP menus so that you alter the right thing, wether it's the ISO speed, the LIGHTING setting (tungsten, sun, flourescent or shade), the EXPOSURE VALUE, Image Quality or even the colour of the pictures (black and white/colour).
The camera's size is quite good, at 11.7cm by 3.9cm by 5.7cm, which is neither ...

...guy after all) and fortunately HP seems to have taken this into account. The box contained the camera, a set of batteries, a USB connector lead, a carry strap, a manual, a CD and an easy start up guide for people like me.
The camera looks exactly as it does on the picture above – silver about 4” x 2” x 1” and is silver. I have no idea if HP intends to make it in other colours so I hope silver is your thing… The front of the camera has the flash, ... ...power connector (can take the HP C8912 AC power adapter from the mains) and a handy one for connecting it directly to a TV for when you really want to show off.
The base of the camera has the docking port (it will dock with the HP 8886 Camera Dock) and a screw mount for standard tripod fittings. Under the wrist strap mount is the battery bay door and it’s in here you can fit memory cards as well. The camera has a 16mb built-in memory already but ...

Well done mum, the first one she's ever bought (for me as a Christmas present) and she got it right. This did surprise me a little as she is not all that technologically aware. This just shows, I think how foolproof this camera is as she also has one herself and never ceases to amaze me with the pictures she has taken with it and also managed to upload AND e-mail to me!
She got this quality "Product of China" from PC World (she doesn't know anywhere ... ...but I'm thinking around £99. I've found the camera to be incredibly simple to use from the very first time I switched it on. There are menus to pick which features I want to use and just one button to press when I want to take a picture.
I can make motion clip at the touch of a button also but haven't ventured as far as attempting to add sound, although the manual, which is also very easy to understand, tells me it's well within the realms of possibility.

Advantages: Easy, tough, good value Disadvantages: Not great at night shots, No optical zoom, basic features.
Another digital camera? That's what my wife said when I ordered the HP435 (amazon.com). We already had one (an Olympus), unfortunately not too sturdy - and had to go to the repair shop twice in the first year we had it (we did tend to put it to rough use ;)). So rather than spend a further £80 for someone to look over the camera - decided to get one for everyday, slightly rougher use. Hence this - cost about £79 on amazon.com - not bad at all!
Very ... ...put in the batteries, and go! There's only one big button to press to take photos - very convenient when you ask others to take photos for you. There's a timer button and a motion clip button - which seem really easy to use as well, but haven't had the need to.
The zoom (x5) is only digital => photos at 5x seem a bit grainy. But 2-3x comes out perfectly fine (3.1 mega pixels helps!). There are 3 different resolutions, so you can get >150photos on ...

Advantages: Quality of pics, Easy use, size Disadvantages: sometimes a bit slow, freezes sometimes
OK so my cousin won this from work, and we've borrowed it a few times now, to use in parties, going on holiday and all sorts. When my sister went to Italy, Rome, she used the camera and I thought it had excellent quality. On the camera the pictures may look a bit blurred but when you transfer them to your computer they are very good quality for 3.1 megapixels. The size is quite reasonable, it isnt very heavy, can probably fit into a small handbag ... ...but, when you get onto the menu, it can be quite confusing on where to go because of all the different buttons there are :S and the screen freezes sometimes, not sure if this happens for everyone but it has for me a few times, but that is a minor problem and has not caused any big problems. Battery life...Well I cant say it was good, it was pretty rubbish on the camera I used with a new battery unfortuneately. There is also a video feature, but it ...

Also got sandisk 128 mb memory, and zio dazzle usb card reader. Camera menus are easy to navigate through, and is exactly what I needed which is a simple to use, inexpensive camera, high quality camera.Software install on win 2000, and win xp home was super simple. Instruction book is very thorough. Transfer speed both through camera usb interface and with zio external card reader are lightning fast. Additional photo editing software isn't overly amazing, but the templates for the 'design you own photo album' are great for the novice video/photo -grapher. Not too many bells and whisltes. But the ones it lacks aren't worth the extra 80 dollars compared to the closest match in the Sony world. Overall, it's a great camera at a great price. ...
