To set the scene, I live in front of my PC. In the past if my wife wanted to surf, use email or print I was temporarily evicted from my seat. This was a major inconvenience. I set up a small home network now she can surf and email from her own laptop. With a bit of work she can also print from our main printer. The problem arises when me being a bit of a geek and I take LOTS of pics, they all live on the PC. My wife wanted them printed out but I could not be bothered. We have our own cameras but she won't take many pics because they won't get printed. Along comes the Hp photosmart printer. Probably like most other small form printers but as I was looking in the "cheaper" price range, there was a distinct lack of card support. This one seems to have all the major ones. I won't go into specs here. HP make good printers. This one being one of them. The print quality is fantastic. When using 4"x6" paper borderless printing is really borderless... Just like the old processed film pics you got from the chemist! The colours are vivid, you don't actually need a PC to drive this. You can with relative ease, crop pics on the small screen. There is also an auto photofix option which fixes redeye. Again, eliminating the need for a PC. My wife can now sit on the sofa printing to her heart's content while I continue to surf.
The unit itself is really neat. It is sitting on my cluttered desk and it's "footprint" does not take up much space. Paper is loaded vertically so there is only the need to leave the front clear for the ejected paper ( The unit will NOT work unless the door at the front is down).
The supplied screen does not give a true representation of the image quality. It looks "Blocky". You would be fooled into thinking it was not a good photo. On my first few uses, I got a paper jam because I did not set the guide to keep the paper straight and it got pulled in on one side. I struggled to release the paper, trying to pull it out again. By putting my finger in the paper area there was a wheel holding it. A quick nudge, very gentle, the paper was released.
Ink levels. Well, it is on one cartridge and you get approx 50 images 4"x6" per cartridge but this is variable depending on the image type, colour levels in the pics etc. (The paper tray holds approx 20 sheets).
Bluetooth (Yes, it also has bluetooth) operation. A nice feature and again is simple to use, if you understand bluetooth. I will later test sending pics to it from a laptop with a bluetooth adapter. All you need oto do is send the printer a picture and it will print it out!!! I suggest changing the pin on the printer for security. No one can hack in but they could send lots of pictures as the default pin is easy to discover. (Or turn that bit of if you don't need it).
This was bought for my wife to use. She finds no problems in using it operating it at all. It does exactly what it was designed to do. Print borderless images, at 2min per pic on 4x6" sheets. (It can go up to 13cmx18cm paper, that takes around 3 mins per sheet) It looks like a nice and tidy unit, the menu is really simple, cartridges are easy to fit and change, paper loading is simple. I find it hard to fault. It is an HP Inkjet printer. It is great. My wife loves it and she hates technology. That is gotta be worth something.
OK something bad... Ink runs out quickly, limited paper size... the weird grey front around the card reader bit. The rest of the unit is a dark charcoal/black colour, why the grey interior!!! I honestly love this little unit and wish I bought a small form printer for my photos earlier. If you intend to buy one, buy this. Well worth the money. (Also easier to print from here than fiddling with the photo cards in a larger printer).
Advantages: Many changeable options, great software, crisp images Disadvantages: Eats batteries
I've had this camera since 2001 (purchased it in 2001 for $600 Canadian dollars) and have loved it ever since. By today's standards, it's entry level, but at the time, it was quite expensive and aimed towards the amateur photographers. It features a 3x optical zoom, which is important for getting crisp pictures. It also has a remote control so you can take pictures with you in them. There are many options (change ISO, exposure settings, etc) and ... ...and white). It can't take video, but it can record sound. The pictures are quite good, and will rival any camera currently on the market that is two megapixels. It has red eye reduction as well and takes 4 batteries (which it eats up very quickly).
If you see it on ebay for cheap and just want something to take nice pictures (5 x 7 size) then this will work for you. But if you're looking to make larger printouts or want to be an amateur photographer ...

...Surely there are better digital cameras like the HPPhotoSmart C618 in the meantime, but it is them/her/it little about a fully equipped and powerful digital seeker camera for a hobby photographer for itself wishes frankly leaves. Also for a beginner, this camera is practically and intuitively compact to serve. With your dissolution, one really gets an outstanding picture quality of 2,1 mega pixels, and that of DIN A4 themselves in a format. Especially well, I find the possibility infrared the picture data about one - interface, to transfer on a corresponding photo printer. All together, I can digitally for the native one - laboratory only to 100 percent recommends.
