The printer follows the standard HP layout of input and output trays to the front of the printer with paper taking a U shaped path through the device.
There are 2 paper trays, one for A4 and one for 10x15cm (6"x4") paper, however you do have to manually adjust a lever to switch between paper sources.
Being a Photosmart printer this printer has a few extra features over an ordinary Deskjet.
Firstly the printer supports no less than 2 types of photo cartridge, the first replaces the black cartridge and adds light magenta and light cyan to improve colour photo rendition. The second type is a grey cartridge for printing black and white photos - something which HP's other photo printers struggle with, greys ending up with a slightly blue or green hue. It should be noted that the printer comes with a colour and photo colour cartridge in the box - no black cartridge is supplied as standard.
The printer supports borderless printing on A4 and 10x15 (6x4) paper - printing right ot the edge of the paper so there's no need to trim off a white border.
As well as behaving like a normal printer when connected to a computer this printer is also capable of operating without a computer, printing directly from a range of digital camera memory cards. CompactFlash Type I and II and Microdrive, SmartMedia, Secure Digital/MultiMedia Cards, Memory Sticks (Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick Pro, Magic Gate) and xD-Picture Card. are all supported.
A colour screen allows you to preview photos before you print them, giving you options to adjust contrast, brightness and basic cropping operations. However, this printer also has a much more impressive trick up its sleeve!
There is an option to print an index sheet of all the photos on a memory card - nothing special there - but you can then mark the photos you want to print, along with the size required in the boxes provided on the index sheet using a black felt tip or biro. Then feed the index sheet back through the printer - it looks for your marks and prints the photos you've selected! This feature works extremely well.
On the minus side the colour, photo, and grey cartridges all contain more than one colour of ink - so when one runs out you have to throw the rest away. Also the cartridges aren't cheap (around £18-25, depending on type) and only contain 11ml of ink. Printing 600 10x15 photos required 2 photo and 2 tri color cartridges, 13 pence per print in ink alone!
For this reason alone I can't recommend the printer - Epson inkjets are cheaper to run and online photo services cheaper still if you don't need 'immediate' prints.
Advantages: Fast Printing, Superb Photo Quality, Built in Functions Disadvantages: Ink runs out very quick
...is a printer made by HP who are very good when it comes to making good quality printers. This is no exception, the speed of printing be it colour or black and white is very quick and is very good quality. The one outstanding thing about this printer is the photo quality. The HP Photosmart 7760 photo printer offers high performance direct photo printing in up to 6-ink color or up to 4800-optimized dpi. With an image LCD preview screen, it is so fast, convenient and easy to edit, enhance, preview and print memories - no PC required! Just slip your camera's memory card into a compatible slot, then use the 1/8-inch image LCD or the HP Photo Proof Sheet and top panel buttons to preview, edit, select, save and print your photos. And you get two built-in paper trays, making it easy to print both 4x6-inch and standard size prints with or without borders. Your printing options are so versatile - everything from high-quality photos that resist fading for generations - twice as long as traditionally-processed photos - to great everyday text.
