I bought this camera as an upgrade from a Kodak DX3700 which I thought at teh time produced good results. Main reason for the upgrade was lack of zoom and focus on the Kodak. Having used this quite extensively I can not believe how much better the quality of the pictures are.
It has a few advanced options if you are brave enough to experiment, for example you can set the shutter speed and the camera will choose the exposure or vice versa (You can have a 16 second exposure if you so wish and lots of steps inbetween).
There are 3 different quality setting with the lowest compression producing 1.8Mb file sizes.
The zoom is mighty impressive with an 8 x Optical and after that the digital zoom kicks in and as it digitally zooms it displays how much the quality is suffering (i.e. It drops from 4 megapixel down to just below 1 megapixel quality but that is very very zoomed in.
It has a self timer which is handy and can also record up to 60 seconds of video with audio. Only problem being if the noise is a little loud the microphone doesn't pick it up too well but hey it is primarily a stills camera so what do you expect.
Downside I suppose is that it is all plastic and may show wear and tear quickly and it is not one of those 'pop it into your top pocket' digital cameras.
I'd recommend this camera for anyone wanting to take their digital photography up from an entry level digital camera but not quite ready for spending the best part of £1000 on a high end model
