Advantages:
The picture quality of this camera (using "auto" setting and * * * picture quality) is as good as I have seen from any 4mp camera . The camera becomes very easy to use after a short learning period .
Disadvantages:
The camera isn't as compact as some (because of its excellent 8x zoom optical system
2. 256 Mb SD memory card(replacing the 16Mb supplied)changed the camera into a competent working tool
3. The dock ( providing quick connection to charger and computer ) is desireable - I dont have this and the manipulation of the separate cables and charger gets tedious sometimes.( As with any camera)
4. There is a shutter actuation lag ( a short delay between pressing the shutter release button and the camera actually "exposing" the ccd array). The lag can be reduced by pre focussing. -Sometimes difficult when photographing moving subjects. Reducing this lag would require investment in much more complex (expensive) technology.
5. I use my camera for hobby and professional purposes. Professionally, a burst mode ( camera takes a series of images as quickly as current settings will allow) would be very useful , but this just isnt available in cameras of this type and price.
6. In conclusion : I could not get the functionality and capabilities of this camera (at this price) , anywhere. I looked across the market,I believe rigorously, before obtainaing an example of the camera. I have no regrets
7. There is a very active discussion group on Yahoo groups containing much relevant information and tales of woe or delight re the HP 850
Your conclusion is spot-on and still applies (especially now it's available for less money!) There isn't anything quite like it, and although I normally advise people to buy cameras from 'proper' camera makers, the HP is an honourable exception. The lens is made by Fuji, which may help explain it, of course!
Sorry for the low rating, but I would have liked to have read about your personal thoughts and feelings towards the price, ease of use and handling of this camera. What you have written is a good start but a little more personal inormation would get the ratings up...Please let me know if you add to this at any time, so that I can come back and re read and rate it for you later.
