ProReliability. Good quality results. Keen price

ConsPoor software that hinders the printer's potential

The HP Photosmart D5160 is a lovely printer keenly priced. The photos it prints are sharp and clear, given the use of the right paper. On standard document printing it ranks along side other HP inkjets. Where it excels other HP inkjets is the ability to load SD cards, USB memory sticks and the...

This is my second ever printer. The Printer before this one was about 5-6years old so when i got this new one it was like entering a new world. The draft setting is amazing. The printer literally prints so quickly that the paper gets spat out! I found this amazing! From the old one to this one...

Pro

Cons

To begin, this really is a great printer, and it prints photos with superb quailty, at a really good price. Also, as with most HP models, you replace the ink and the print header, which means that you don't have to worry about cleaning the heads all the time. The D5160 has a very useful feature...

Fantastic printer, very good value for money. Very easy to use and very easy to install the software. I found it quiet as far as home printers go. And quite quick with quality printing. I think the slots for your memory card from your camera is a great idea and makes for printing photos easy. The...

This product is interesting. It has more capabilities than your average printer including a option for CD label printing. The most handy thing is the buttons on the front allowing oneself to easily do things like cancel a print job or change the layout. It is a fast printer, and will print high quality photos in 20-30 seconds, or 24 pages per minute. You can also easliy print photos from your stick drive by using the USB port on the front face of the printer. All-in-all it is a good buy for a family looking for good quality doc. or photos for school projects fast. Price ranging from 80 - 90 USD.

Not for me

published 31/12/2008

Not a good printer at all in our experience. Has had major issues taking up paper from about 3 months old. We should have taken it back, but never did. When it has worked it has been very good, but those times have been rare. You have been warned.

Let me start by saying that as a photo quality printer this unit is good value for money. I paid £48.00 which is very reasonable. The printer is fast compared to ohers in the class, prints are sharp, clear and colour is well rendered. I have no complaints over the print quality at all. What a shame then that the supplied software is complete pants. We bought this machine specifically to print direct to CD/DVD disks, a feature which is heavily advertised as a selling point. Unfortunately the software is unable to construct meaningful direct to disk projects and we ended up having to use a very convoluted path using 3rd party software to get anywhere near reasonable results.
