I bought this printer because I was fed up forking out lots of money for ink jet cartridges which would run out of one colour and mean that the rest of the ink was unused.
So in December 2007 I purchased the HP PhotoSmart D7160. This printer has individual inkjet cartridges for each colour. However in January 2008 the printer just packed up and would not work. I contacted Hewlett Packard and explained that I had no idea why it would not work. They were very helpful, non-judgemental and identified the problem (technical and beyond my ken) and arranged for me to send the printer back.
The carrier collected it and replaced it with a brand new printer. It worked like a dream. The aftersales service cannot be faulted.
I use the printer for making leaflets and printing photgraphs. This means I tend to use a lot of blue and black for the former. It was very easy to replace the individual inkjet cartridges and most of them are the original inks.
However in my opinion the price of an individual injet cartridge of one colour is I think quite expensive. Although I use few of some colours I use a lot of blue and black. The latter (large) costing from £20.99, standard for blue and black from £7.99.
However for everyday printing you must use a paper that 100 gsm. I found that using a lighter paper, 80 or 90 gsm means that often the paper jams or the leaflet is damaged totally or partly.
I have been unable to use card. I make booklets with card covers. Unfortunately the printer will not allow the card through and there seems to be no way of adjusting the printer to enable it to do so. I have had to use thick paper instead. This is a disappointment. The instructions give no guidance.
Printing photographs produces excellent colour reproduction, but you must use good quality photographic paper.
A good all round printer but the paper jamming can be annoying.
Advantages: Excellent Quality, Well Made, Good Value For Money Disadvantages: None!
This is definately one of the best printers around! The sleek design of the product is what first hits you in the face. A small screen on the top, allows for easy viewing of your pictures before printing off. This screen has a simple button system underneath it which allows the user to totally control the print set-up from controlling which files are to be printed, to setting the printing quality! You maybe thinking 'but wont the screen get quickly ... ...off?' Well if you thought that then you are very wrong. In order to sit into the streamline shape of the printer, this screen folds back into the printer, protecting it when not being used.
This printer, being a ink-jet printer, can produce stunning quality pictures at a reasonable speed rate. Altrhough it cannot produce documents at the same rate of a laser printer, this printer is definately a competitor!
Set-up of this printer is simple, and ...
