Full review
I bought this camera as a bundle deal last Christmas thinking that by choosing a HP product, I was buying into a reliable brand and excellent features.
Whilst I do not deny that the camera is very easy to use, takes great little pictures and fits easily in your pocket, I have found a couple of faults with it.
Firstly there is the poor customer support. After buying an SD card for use in the camera I came to upload my pictures only to find nothing there. Eventually it turned out to be the card at fault but the customer service during that time was especially hard work. After going online I was told that I would have to ring a call centre as the online help was based in the US. The call centre was only open certain hours and then their advice was to go back online and download some program which you then had to transfer onto the camera etc. - basically very hard and complicated for a novice like myself. After that route had been tried, they were then supposed to send me another SD Card in the post to check whether mine was at fault. Despite 3 promises that the card was on its way, I never received it. I ended up biting the bullet and buying a new one.
The battery I have found to be a major and very annoying problem. After buying some very expensive rechargeable digital camera batteries, I find that after a couple of hours of being in the camera, they are running out. I have no warning of this and the design is such that the lens remains sticking out with no battery power left to put it back in. I have to wait a few minutes after it has turned itself off, turn it on,(the lens then goes in ready to come out again) and put my hand over the lens to forcefully stop it coming out. The battery then dies again with the lens in the right position.
On the plus side, the camera does offer a very easy to navigate menu system and a choice of settings for diiferent types of pictures you may be taking i.e. Snowy/Sunny Weather, Sports, Portrait, Macro, or if you are not very artistically minded ( like me) an "Automatic" setting which mine is permanently on.
The camera asks for confirmation before you delete any pictures, so you couldn't really get rid of any by mistake. It also has a timer and automatic red eye reduction facility.
The software is very easy to install and uploading the pictures is extremely easy.
For the price I paid for the camera, it does its job, but if you want something a little more reliable I would go for a different manufacturer.
