This is a professional photo-quality inkjet printer which prints a range of photograph sizes from passport up to A3+ (330 x 482 mm) photographs, with or without borders. It will also act as a standard desktop printer and handles text and text/image mixes to as high a standard.
The printer is a compact (width x depth x height) 57 cm x 41 cm x 18.5 (22.6" x16.1" x 7.33") and has a smart metallic silver body with a black lid. It is fairly heavy; weighing in at 26.5 lbs (approx 12 kg)
The Photosmart Pro has front input and output trays which look neat, these are both extendable p to size A3+. Also on the front are the power button and its indicator light, the resume button and its indicator light, the cancel button and the print cartridge status lights. At the back there is a rear manual input tray for thick papers and card. Here you will also find the rear access panel and its release buttons, the power input point and the USB 2 port.
It uses Vivera inks which give a wide colour range, these are very resistant to fade and apparently when printed onto HP premium plus photo paper will last around 100 years – although I obviously can’t verify this! These inks use dyes rather than pigments and give a smooth, uniform high-gloss finish on glossy photo papers. The Photosmart Pro splits 6 colours between 2 cartridges; 1st cartridge contains yellow, cyan and magenta 2nd cartridge contains light cyan, light magenta and black It is also possible to replace a cartridge with a large black for when printing just text. In addition when printing black and white images it is possible to replace a cartridge with a grey one to increase its shade range and image quality
It is compatible with Mac as well as windows requiring Apple MacOS X 10.4 or later, Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition and will eventually support Vista. It has 32 MB of installed RAM.
The Maximum Colour Resolution is 4800 x 1200 dpi and its maximum Printing Speed is 31 pages per minute for black and white and 24 pages per minute for colour. As I mentioned earlier it can produce prints without a border or with if you prefer. It is also capable of double sided printing with an optional duplex accessory.

The HP Photosmart Pro B8350 comes with its drivers and utilities and an electronic user guide. It also comes with HP Photosmart Premiere software which includes the ability to edit pictures before you print them; active preview enables you to make last minute adjustments to a photo before printing. You are able to remove red eye and green-eye (pets), sharpen photographs and improve colour. Adaptive lighting technology balances relationships between bright and dark areas in a photo, enhancing contrasts by smoothing out harshness. Create virtual albums and keywords to categorize and group your photos and videos. You can also View thumbnails, single or full screen images, or view slide shows set to music. There are masses of templates make it easy to create greeting cards, photo albums, calendars, CD labels and slideshows
My opinion, The HP Photosmart Pro B8350 does produce very high quality photographs with vibrant colours that are a very good reflection of the actual colours that were photographed; it reproduces skin tones so they look natural. The printing is smooth and uniform; the black and white images are reproduced superbly. Printing an A3 image at maximum quality takes several minutes so it isn’t really fast but this is reflected in the price as it reasonable. Corners have to be cut somewhere to reduce prices; personally I am glad they chose speed rather than quality. The inks also take quite a while to dry at the higher qualities so it’s worth printing them off one at a time and removing them to dry elsewhere before printing another. If you don’t you may find you get smudges or even sticking. It isn’t a particularly noisy printer and it its fairly economical on the inks although it is worth investing in a pure black cartridge for text jobs as if you use all the black ink in the tri-colour cartridge you have to replace the whole lot regardless of how little coloured ink you may have used.
This printer is worth buying if you take photographs and like to print them out particularly at larger sizes. If you don’t print many photos or do mostly text then this probably isn’t the printer for you
