The camera i chose for my father to give to my mum
Advantages: Small, easy to use, decent quality Disadvantages: tiny viewfinder, minor aberration
...with this camera. My previous HP took ages, especially in dark conditions, to sort itself out and get focus lock. THis one is very fast, and you won't miss that perfect picture due to waiting for the camera.
Transferral to the PC is a doddle with the software, although i wouldn't use it for editing the pictures. Get something like photoshop elements of paint shop pro for that.
It looks svelte with a brushed aluminium ... ...the right places and easy to use, although the video button is maybe a little too close to the main shutter release button and could cause accidental video footage.
It's small and light, easily fitting into a handbag or pocket. It has a reasonable level of adjustments the user can make, like saturation and sharpness etc. It has 32Mb of built in memory which is more than most, you will need a separate memory card, i recommend 512Mb, ... more
As it says, my dad wanted to buy my mum a compact digital camera for around £100 for her birthday, as she never uses her clunky 35mm SLR anymore, and has to rely on the kindness of others, like me, providing her with lots of duplicates.
I did a fair bit of research on the best camera in the class. Unfortunately, there are simply a vast number of cameras with a very similar spec to this one. It seems to be about the most popular price/performance ratio currently.
This features a 4.1 Megapixel CCD Sensor, with a 3x optical zoom. It can also shoot decent movies (288 x 216 @ 24fps) in MPEG format along with capturing sound over pictures taken. If you want all the detailed information, click the product information tab.
Two important things to note are the 1/2.5" censor size. This is relatively typical of small digital cameras. This means it does not capture as much light as a real 35mm film, or as much as a digital SLR, so if quality is your prime objective, look to something like the Konica Minolta 5D, which is a budget DSLR.
The second thing to note is the f (aperature) rating. This lens is f2.6-4.8, which is good. The lower the f-stop rating the more light is entering the lens and illuminating the sensor. The more you zoom onto something though, the higher the f-stop goes, indicating less light is enetering the camera, and so the camera needs to use a slower shutter speed, which can allow blurring to ocurr in fast moving pictures.
This camera also features HP's adaptive lighting technology. This is actually useful. It will help compensate for areas of the photograph that have either been over or underexposed. For example, it will lighten very dark shadows in bright pictures so that more detail is preserved. It's a useful little feature that means you need to tinker less with the photo once it's on your computer to make it perfect.
I think this camera is squarely aimed at those who do not really want to know that much about cameras, but want to be able to capture good pictures, quickly and easily. This camera succeeds in this respect. The photos taken with it have good contrast, clarity and sharpness. Although, as with all digital cameras, some work needs to be done on them back on the computer to get their absolute best out.
The is slight edge smearing, another common problem with digital compacts. This is due to the actual lens and sensor being very small, but it's not very noticeable in most shots.
The panoramic feature is really useful, as it will overlay a photo so that you can exactly line up where your next panoramic shot should be started, again, saving time and work later back at home.
The falsh is decent, exposes well and has a decent number of settings.
The one big downside is the viewfinder. It's useless. It's tiny and distorts the image and does not give a true representation of whats being photographed. But then most people use the screen on the back anyway, which is the smarter option.
The battery is lithium ion and lasts a long time. Several hundred shots can be taken, with flash, over several weeks before it gets even close to being drained.
The camera is very easy to use, with inbuilt help items within the menu system. I should say here that this camera was bought for a complete technophobe, and not only does she love it, but she produces lots of good pictures (my mother if you'd forgotten).
Shutter lag is also very good with this camera.
It looks svelte with a brushed aluminium feel and look to it. All the buttons are in the right places and easy to use, although the video button is maybe a little too close to the main shutter release button and could cause accidental video footage.
It's small and light, easily fitting into a handbag or pocket. It has a reasonable level of adjustments the user can make, like saturation and sharpness etc. It has 32Mb of built in memory which is more than most, you will need a separate memory card, i recommend 512Mb, but if that runs out, the 32Mb makes a great emergency backup, rather than the 16mb you usually get.
It also has a neat little feature where it will take two photos from the self timer, so that if anyone is pulling silly faces, hopefully one of the photos won't capture it.
On the whole, this is a decent, well built little camera. I do recommend it. You can get a lot better, but you have to pay a lot more. An excellent compormise between price and quality. Any questions, fell free to message me.
Advantages: 4.1mp good for a compact, neat, Real-Life technologies. Disadvantages: Expensive, could do with more mp for the price.
...I have sold it for HP during one of their promotions. So I do know what I'm talking about. In relation to this camera, anyway. Don't go asking me for marriage guidance, or unsightly oozing sores though. Just the camera.
Ok, I know what you're thinking, 'compact digital camera? £170? get them free with Kotex panty liners now'. Well, yes and no. It is true that the world and his wife have digital cameras now, but it isn't fair to lump cameras like ... ...feature called Adaptive Lighting which HP is quite proud about. It means that the camera can pick out detail by brightening areas of a picture that would normally be covered in shadow; it manages this without flooding the whole area with flash, which can lead to a pale, washed out look. (If you visit the HP website, I'm sure there'll be some kind of comparison details to show you what I mean.) Anyway, the Adaptive Lighting comes with two levels depending ...

Advantages: Compact, user friendly, light. Good zoom function. Disadvantages: Small buttons can be fiddly.
...a glance. The HP Photosmart R507 is ideal for those seeking perfectly clear, high quality images. As a 4.1 million megapixel digital camera however, those with low RAM or low processor computers should beware. The images produced by this camera are excellent but enormous with an average pixel size of 2000 x 1500, some lower memory or older operating systems may run slower as a result. This camera is light and comes with its own rechargeable battery. ... ...with a carry case or strap and a separate memory card is needed as a maximum of 15 images can be held on the camera itself. The easy to use USB cable makes phot uploading fast and effective.
The Camera also has red eye and alteration functions as well as different environment modes for optimum picture quality.
At a starting price of around £120-£160 (depending on the store) as well as around £25 for the picture memory card. An all round brilliant ...

Advantages: good picture quality adn very easy to unload pictures to computer Disadvantages: fairly big
I had been looking for a new camera for a while and searched around. I came across this one because i just wanted something easy to use, good picture quality and good price. I got this in a sale so paid £100 so i felt i was getting a good deal. I also got a dock and software.
I practised at home taking pictures of silly pictures. it is fairly easy to use although i was slightly confused about how to change the brightness etc but i figured it out. ... ...has a good big LCD screen at the back so you can see the photo you have just taken which was very handy.
It was very easy to load my photos onto the computer and i sent one of the pictures to my own address, just to see what it looked like as i had not been able to send photos before. It turned out very good and i was pleased.
The only thing that annoyed me was some of my pictures blurred even though i had only moved the camera slightly. If you ...

Advantages: Easy to use , compact, with great features Disadvantages: Is it a brand you trust?
What can't be said about this camera? with the myriad of features not found on other brands of camera, this one superceeds the lot, on camera image advice being my favourite. Great features also include on camera red eye reduction, extended panorama functions and adaptive lighting really give someone who likes to make the most of a digital camera really achieve satisfaction. If however you are a user who doesn't want to mess around it is simple enough ... ...to just do this then this camera may be at the wrong end of the market for you, but if you gradually want to learn new techniques and progress further then this is a good choice.
The docking station that comes with this product is easy to use and you also get another battery which the station charges at the same time as your camera. The docking station also allows plugging straight into a TV or a printer.
