At over £300 the HP S20 is not a cheap photo scanner but if it is quality and reliability you are after I would certainly recommend this machine. It can scan mounted slides, positive strips, negatives and 35 mm positive film (photograph size up to 13 cm by 18 cm). There is very little noise during operation. Installation could not be simpler through the USB interface and the my machine came complete with S20 scanning software and MS picture IT99 software. What I especially like is the control the operator has over the whole imaging process.
