The Printer

I bought this printer in September 2011. It has so far proven to be very good and I've been happy overall with its performance. I researched quite thoroughly before I bought this printer as I have come unstuck in the past with the cost of replacement cartridges. The HP cartridges are good because the colours are sold separately and are reasonable in price. Because I print primarily in black and white, the black runs out quickest, with the HP I can just replace the black a leave the colour cartridges alone. My last printer refused to work if the colours ran empty, even if I only wanted to print in black. I have not yet had that problem with this one and even if it does refuse to print once the colours dry out, they can be purchased individually and are not expensive.

The scanner

As for the scanner, this works well and the quality is good. The packaged software enables you to scan multiple pages to PDF format which is ideal for my work.

The Photocopier

The photocopier function is the part which I have used the least as you don't seem to be able to choose greyscale/economy. I just tend to scan, then print through the PC, this enables me to choose economy in the print preferences.

The Set up and general use

My only criticisms would be that the setup took quite a long time. The installation of software took a good half hour and the setting up of the wireless options via my home router were quite involved. Its not super easy plug and play although most computer literate types should be able to do it. The other problem I've had is that sometimes, for no apparent reason, the printer shows as unavailable on my PC. The only way to get it all connected and working again is to switch everything off and start over. It has also done this halfway through scanning a multiple page document which was quite annoying because I had to do it all again once the connection was re-established. This may be a fault with my computer or router so I cannot categorically blame the printer or its software for this.

Connectivity

The printer comes with the option to wire up like a normal printer but the wireless option is more preferable for us and means you can connect multiple devices via your router.

My opinion

Overall, for the money I have been very impressed with this. The build quality seems good and it is sleekly designed. Would recommend.
