Advantages: Lots of resource, processor power and expansion Disadvantages: Price and extras needed.
Fantastic performance , flawless reliability and reassuringly pricey is a good way to describe one of our Proliant ML370 servers here in the office.
If you need your server to deliver cutting edge technology with bulletproof backup, this is a must for any self respecting IT guy.
The Proliant range from HP has been around for a few years but the latest generation takes advantage of shrinking sized parts and components and power saving methods to evolve an already successful product.
We have both the G5 and G4 models of this server and the main obvious change is the disk size. The hard disks (and it can take up to 8 of them) and the newer slimline serial SCSI type rather than the Ultra SCSI in the G4. Faster and with the same lightning response time, they obviously draw less power resouce from your server and power supply ...
Advantages: Value for Money, Upgradeability, Customer Service. Disadvantages: No Major Disadvantages
This server is starting the trend of affordable home and small office servers. For just over £100 you can now get this fully functional server without an operating system. This smart looking tower contains a good specification of components for the price, including an AMD Dual-Core Opteron 1210 1.8Ghz Processor with 2MB Cache that is capable of multitasking. 1GB Ram as standard upgradeable to a full 8GB (Please note that 32 Bit operating systems only support upto 3.5GB RAM).
The Option of SATA or IDE storage devices. This includes 1x 160GB SATA Hard Drive. A CD-RW - DVD-ROM Combo (DVD-RW not included). This also has good networking capabilities with 1x Gigabit Ethernet port. This also has on board graphics with the option to upgrade via your PCI express slot. With a 3year next business day on-site warranty you can't get better value ...
Advantages: Maximum power, minimal rack space Disadvantages: No external SCSI connector
I recently purchased several of these boxes and they continue to impress. Being only 1U in size, they're ideal when you need lots of servers and space is at a premium.
It's good to get a 1U server that still has hot plug drives. I'm not so keen on the lower spec'd DLs that have the fixed drives, or even the ATA drives. The only thing that is a slight nusience is that there is no external scsi connector. If you're looking for a small server to drive, say for instance backups on a tape library, then you're going to need to fit another scsi card, or just buy a DL380 instead.
They have also done a good job with the power cables. Angled cables to help with cabling multiple 1U server together.
The only other thing that can be annoying is the rails that come with the server. They're a bit fiddly compared to a DL380, and they don ...

Manufacturer's product description
Combining concentrated 1U compute power, integrated Lights-Out management, and essential fault tolerance, the DL360 is optimized for space-constrained installations. What's more, the DL360 G5 steps up the fault tolerant in an ultra dense platform with redundant power, redundant fans, mirrored memory or online spare memory, embedded RAID capability, and full-featured remote Lights-Out management.
