Advantages: Slimline, only takes a few U's in the Rack. very reliable. Disadvantages: The new HP Smartstart is not as easy to understand as the original version.
...For those of you who aren't aware HP have taken over Compaq and rebadged compaq Servers with the HP badge.
This is just an upgrade to the Compaq Proliant DL380 G2.
You are still getting one of the most reliable servers in the industry for the right price.
They have also rectified the problem on the last model where there was only 4 bays for hard disks , there are now 6 bays, a FDD and a CD drive.
The server is a slimline model and for those of you who rack their servers, this is ideal as it only takes a few U in the rack.
I have built several of these without any real problems and all have been stable once built.
The only critisimn I can make is that Smartstart, a compaq utility to assist you in building these servers, has been rebadged, HP smartstart and given an overall and so far im not impressed, the screens don't flow...

Advantages: Good workhorse server...easy configuration and setup of hardware and software with Top Tools Disadvantages: Can be harder to configure internally due to lack of space although thats expected!!
...And im talking IBM, DELL, Fujitsui
This particular model is a good work horse server ....can be used for a variety of things ..mailserver , webserver ..application server and is easy to customise for your own uses
Out of the box it has easy configuration and setup of hardware and software with HP Top Tools software. After youve put your internal components into the server booot from the Top Tools CD and its a breeze to configure your hard drives and then once thats setup move on to the Operating system of your choice and away you go. These servers can be fully setup with Operating system installed in around 2-3 hours and then easily integrated into your existing enviroment!! Hp servers rule and no i dont work for HP just have to setup a lot of servers and HP are my own bullet proof choice!!...
