HP ProLiant ML570 G3 - Xeon MP 3.66 GHz

Advantages: High Density, excellent availabilty
Disadvantages: Default SmartArray5i does not have option to add battery cache

...We have 12 of these machines, all with dual 2.8Ghz Xeons. The thing I like most about them is that almost everything is hot-plug. From the drives, to the fans, power supplies to the pci cards. Opening the top cover leads to an incredibly well laid out system. PCI cards can be installed and de-installed (assuming the OS supports it) while the system is up and running. I'd highly recommend you invest in the redundant fan option kit. If you're installing another processor then you really need to have this. On a downside, the only thing that springs to mind is there is no front USB port available. With floppy discs disapppearing these days, it would have been nice. ...The last server i purchased through work cost £1394.84 The ProLiant ML370 G3 is durable and easy to manage, there are many configuration possibilities and a powerful management system that makes for an ideal server in any size company. The server is highly manageable at all times so uptime isnt a major problem, great serviceability, and expandability with great reliability and many expansion possibilities. The speed varies on this type of server from nothing below 2.4ghz to 3.1ghz. And with 512mb of memory and a 18.5gigabyte harddrive with room for larger drives on upgrade. I use this in my work place and we have 32 servers all in various standards of the proliant compaq server, they replaced an IBM as400 mainframe and are great to work on, the support from compaq is excellent and the updates for servers are well managed. Advantages: Slimline, only takes a few U's in the Rack. very reliable.
Disadvantages: The new HP Smartstart is not as easy to understand as the original version.

...For those of you who aren't aware HP have taken over Compaq and rebadged compaq Servers with the HP badge. This is just an upgrade to the Compaq Proliant DL380 G2. You are still getting one of the most reliable servers in the industry for the right price. They have also rectified the problem on the last model where there was only 4 bays for hard disks , there are now 6 bays, a FDD and a CD drive. The server is a slimline model and for those of you who rack their servers, this is ideal as it only takes a few U in the rack. I have built several of these without any real problems and all have been stable once built. The only critisimn I can make is that Smartstart, a compaq utility to assist you in building these servers, has been rebadged, HP smartstart and given an overall and so far im not impressed, the screens don...
