This is a fantastic scanner, also come down in price recently. When I was in a high street store I had a look at the specs of this one and one that was £30 dearer and found this one to be the better of the both by a tiny margin, but even if it had been an ickle less as could, I would have probably gone with this as it was the cheaper of the two.
The scanner itself is flatbed, which just makes it easier for the user. It is very fast, and the ease of use is extremely simple. Once it's all installed to the computer, just plug it into USB and off you go. Scanning happens when you run the HP program (scansoft textbridge in my case) you can use the HP program for scanning photos or images, but obviously the textbridge I use is for text....
When scanned on both progs the image/text is extremely clear, its just as good as having the origional!! :o
When you scan something the scanner automatically sets it to crop around the thing which has been scanned and so when you save it you dont have to crop it and you just save the image scanned, simple yet effective!
Optical resolution is 1200 x 1200 dpi and the maximum size which the scanner can take is a standard A4 page, which most people require anyway, so that's superb! The resolution is 8-bit (256 grey levels) / 48-bit colour.
Supported Media Types Include: Transparencies, plain paper, slides, bulk objects (such as books), film
When removing the origional copy from the scanner its not as easy as it sounds and I found that sometimes its rather too easy to get big dirty fingerprints on your scanner!! Not the easiest thing to clean off but you'll get there!
Its been a year or so I have owned this model and haven't had any major difficulties using it. I use it to scan a lot of book, passages from university books i cannot keep, and when you print it off its just as good as having the origional, just without the weight of a big book lol!

Advantages: Great quality Scanning for it's price Disadvantages: a little bit on the chunky side
I bought this when I was a student and it's still going strong!
I needed it to scan high res images onto my PC for editing in photoshop. So I needed to get a good quality scan at a low price (student budget!) I bought it online for £67.99 which i think is a really good price to pay! others in the same marker were selling for around £80-£100 so I was very happy with my bargain!

It also has the ability to scan from slides and negatives as well as prints and other materials, which makes it a very versatile buy!
It's resolution qualities are obviously not the best on the market, but you def get a good deal with this scanner.

...worth worrying about looks.
HP is a very good company (especially with scanners and printers), they are usually very reachable and always respond quickly. They are also very good at correcting mistakes (for example: I once bought an HP printer which had a part missing from the box, within 2 days the replacement part had arrived - didn't cost a penny!).
5 stars! ...
