The HP 4100c has easy to use HP software, which allows for trial scans followed by full definition ones if you like what you see. It does a fair job of interpreting what it is looking at and even the OCR seems to work OK.
The machine also has two buttons on the front - one for going direct to printer, effectively making it a photcopier. If one of your printers just happens to be FAX software, then you've got yourself an outgoing ... ...hardware along with digital cameras etc, so you just pick your source and proceed).
I still remain impressed by the simplicity of the HP 4100c's style and operation. It has been superceded, but by a machine that looks the same, so my recommendation would probably extend to that instead. ...

As with many products made by key brands, top quality is to be expected. Fortunately with this Scanner, that often-untrue statement is true. The ScanJet 4100C is a very nice scanner, that performs well.
First off: the installation. This was very simple and user friendly. You put the CD in, and ran the set-up, which did the rest. Once the scanner was installed, HP’s own software is very good and provides fast and high quality results. It has the ... ...such as Photo Quality, Text document and more.
On the subject of Quality, this scanner rates highly. The image quality that it can detect and produce is very high and fine for photo quality prints. It can reproduce text documents with ease as well, as is often a better option than faxing it. I mainly use the scanner to get photos and then print off copies because of the way it reproduces them so well.

Quality of the map. Maximum permission of 600*600 dots per inch (interpolational 1200*1200). Well accepts halftones.
