Advantages: good quality scanning Disadvantages: software is rubbish, can take for ever to scan an image
I bought myself this to scan various things (old photos, documents and some sheet music) and this does the job pretty well. It was a bit on the expensive side but I needed something that would give me good quality and I could trust that it would work well so I went for HP as they are well known for good quality products.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
It can scan at up to 4,800 dpi (dots per inch)
It has 96 bit colour
It has a 216x311mm scanning screen
Connects by USB
It is 303x508x108mm (wxdxh)
It weighs 5.2 kg
So it can give you very good quality, it gets a lot of colours, it's got a decent sized scanning screen, it's pretty big and it's not a light weight utility. There is nothing in there to put me off though because I still bought it.

Advantages: quick, decent software, good images after some repeats and fiddling Disadvantages: inconsistent quality
film, and one for 120 and 220 medium format and 4 x 5? film. To scan you remove the mat from the top cover to reveal the transparency adaptor, place the template on the flatbed, and put the film in the template which is foolproof
In the box you get: the HPScanJet 4890 photoscanner, built-in slide and negative adapter and template kit, USB cable, power supply adapter/power cord, CDs with software and user instructions, setup poster, user's manual, warranty card
My experience.
A lot about this scanner is excellent but not everything. It is very quick to scan but doesn?t always recognise everything it should, for example when loading with 16 slides or 30 negatives it doesn?t always recognise and scan all of them, you either have to try and do it manually or you have to find the missed ones and reload them.

Advantages: simple instructions prints in glorious detail Disadvantages: highlights lines, fade marks
flat bed scanners can be a joy or a nightmare when used.
they can brilliantly pick out all the detail on your picture or ruin it
with producing foldmarks when laid for processing.
consider the use of white or black backing sheets when dealing
with small pictures or 2 pictures in a group.
when combining two letters into one make sure you have
cut and pasted to be made 'invisable before printing'.
the item is easily understood and instructions are simple.
it would be an asset to any pc home suite.
Printing is not slow compared to some scanners.
However, as with all machines patience is a virtue
and a vision of the finished product is also helpful.
Try printing coloured artwork as a test printing sample. ...
