...The DL380 is the main staple of the server estate for my current company, the server is into it’s 4th generation and this review focuses on the 3rd generation. For some reason I think because they are thin but wide and long they got named pizza boxes. This review is on the G3 model of the 360 there is now a G4 model available but I have not seen any of these as yet.
The DL380 comes from the density optimized line, this means that there are some sacrifices that are made to package the server smaller. DL servers aren’t typically as expandable as the ML line servers and can only be rackmounted, typical applications for the DL380 are departmental file/print servers, and small data base servers.
********** Specification*************
The DL380 is at the mid low end of the DL range and will accept either 1 or 2 Intel Zeon processors...

Advantages: Lots of resource, processor power and expansion Disadvantages: Price and extras needed.
....
Inside the Box you can expand the RAM up to 4Gb thanks to the expansion slots and there are 2 slots available for dual Core Xeon processors. Normally they ship with one and I will mention prices for additional processors later.

Weight of it is HEAVY. It takes 2 of you to load and lift this into the rack and it comes with the bolts to attach it to the front of the rack but not the sliding mounts. These are available separately for about £150 a set. It also comes with its...

...old ProLiant 3000 boxes to these and we've managed to save a fortune in management costs. Remember those times when a server has frozen in a datacentre and you need to phone up and get someone to go in there and reboot it? No longer an issue. iLO takes care of all that providing virtual media, power, etc. Again, I'd highly recommend purchasing the iLO advanced pack. It allows you to view the machine as if you were standing in front of it, in a graphical mode - i.e windows, etc. Without it you can only really see the bios.
All in all an excellent server. They also look really nice when you have loads stacked up. One thing I can recommend is that if you can afford the rack space, do the following:
Server
1U gap
Server
1U gap
etc
Without leaving a gab cabling can become quite difficult to manage at the rear. Also, if you...
