Advantages: Up and running in under a minute Disadvantages: Not the fastest, (but then what do you expect)
a simple to use backup solution, but it also features HPs unique "One Button Disaster Recovery" or OBDR. As the name suggests, if you loose you system (disk crash etc) you can recover the whole thing from tape by pressing just one button. How does it work? You simply load the back up tape in to the drive, power off the system, press the eject button on the tapedrive and power everything up, this put's the tapedrive into it's OBDR mode and the system sees it as a bootable device and boots from the tape, this then triggers the full system recovery... and guess what? It works! much quicker and easier than rebuilding from scratch.

This Crucial Gizmo is great for anyone looking to backup there files up to 4GB. I have had this device for over a year now and it?s been great. You can save anything from pictures, music, videos, Photoshop files, pretty much anything you can think of really to this device.
I backed up a few file drivers from one PC and placed them on to another PC, which worked great. This saved the hassle of writing a CD with the files I needed to place on to another PC which I would have probably only used once as well. This device is basically like having 6 CDS worth of data on or just under.
The device is really easy to use, you basically plug the device into the USB slot and go to my computer, and where it says Devices and removable storage your device name will be listed e.g. Crucial. All you do from there is open up the storage device ...
Advantages: Fast, high capacity storage. Well built, looks good. 2 year warranty, No fan. Disadvantages: No fan.
Freecom before as they've always looked a bit cheap and nasty so this would be an interesting experience. The box did feel reassuringly heavy though, a good start.

Apart from the drive, the box contained a small light external PSU, a USB lead and a CD with some backup software.
The case is made of extremly solid and heavy aluminium with a silver plastic front piece with a sexy blue '400GB' light (yes, you can have sexy lights. Really.) at the front just to prove how big it was. The finish is excellent and I have to say, if this is anything to go by, I'm converted to Freecom. Unlike the picture here, my unit has the aluminium finished in matt black which looks really nice on top of my black PC. It's also surprisingly compact - not that much bigger than a hard drive at 20x11.5x4 cms ...
