Advantages: Big and FAST Disadvantages: None come to mind......
...This is the second Lacie drive I've purchased, the former being a 120Gb d2 drive. This newer 400Gb drive features USB2 and firewire 400/800 connections allowing for connection to the more standard newer interfaces. I use a firewire 400 connection.
After looking at all the similar disks of different sizes, this model seemed the best for the price per Gig.....and this disk is fast! I use it on a windows 2K box, and it performs very well, and has not even been turned off for about 3 months. 3D animations stream off this incredibly fast, and the bottleneck if any would appear to be how fat the actual computer can deal with the data. I havent tested it, but I've heard that firewire 800 can be very cpu intensive....always best to get a good quality interface card to try and offload work from the main CPU.
Lacie do bigger disks...

Advantages: Reliable, efficient data storage. Good compatibility Disadvantages: Noisy, capacity not the greatest, speed.
...?
Well, I sold the drives for 1 reason. They could no longer cope with the amount of data we were storing. While we had 2 Tape drives storing 80Gb a night each, our document archive solution required more.
Therefore we decided to purchase 2 new drives from the same manufacturers. These are VS1 drives and tan hold 4 times as much data per drive. They are also much quicker and data transfer rate is greatly increased. However, 4 years on the VS80 drives were working fine and I would have no problem reccomending them to anyone loking at data storage up to 80Gb in size....

Advantages: Up and running in under a minute Disadvantages: Not the fastest, (but then what do you expect)
...a simple to use backup solution, but it also features HPs unique "One Button Disaster Recovery" or OBDR. As the name suggests, if you loose you system (disk crash etc) you can recover the whole thing from tape by pressing just one button. How does it work? You simply load the back up tape in to the drive, power off the system, press the eject button on the tape drive and power everything up, this put's the tape drive into it's OBDR mode and the system sees it as a bootable device and boots from the tape, this then triggers the full system recovery... and guess what? It works! much quicker and easier than rebuilding from scratch.
Summary:
#36GB Native 72GB Compressed
#Transfer rate of 23GB/hour
#USB2
#Up and running in 60 seconds
#Features OBDR (One Button Disaster Recovery)
This drive gives you everything you need to make reliable...
