The USB Optical Scroll Mouse is a two-button mouse with scroll wheel that provides the speed and accuracy of optical tracking in a simple, elegant design. It records motion precisely on a variety of surfaces using the latest optical sensing technology. It also allows scroll wheel to function as a third button. The USB Optical Scroll Mouse has no ball or moving parts, which improves its durability, makes it require less cleaning, and eliminates sticking. The mouse's comfortable, contoured shape fits either hand. Optical tracking is the latest advance in computer mouse technology. Optical mice have a tracking system that works through light which means that there are less moving parts for greater durability than ball-based mice. The optical sensor within the USB Optical Scroll Mouse employs a scan rate of 800dpi. This optical system guarantees crisp motion tracking on many types of surfaces without a mouse pad. There is no ball or roller to clog up so it works without cleaning.

So you get the MX310 opticalmouse, a cute little cd with the latest version of "mouseware" - the software used to run this mouse. Although you can use it as simple plug and play without installing drivers etc on Windows 98, 2000, Me and XP. However only basic features like movement, left and right click and scroll are used, the additional buttons in the middle of the mouse on each side are disabled.
You also get a USB to PS2 ( old styled mouse / keyboard connection ) so you can use it in a PS2 port instead of USB if this is needed, pretty neat and very handy at times! It comes in a lovely bright green so you can’t miss it !

Now this mouse isn't going to win any style awards, it is what it is; a functional mouse. It has the two main buttons found on any pc mouse, that is the right and left buttons. There is also a scroll wheel which also acts as third button, although seems to have now become the standard.
The software that came with the mouse was easy to install and use on xp, it allows all the usual features such as double click time and also the ability to set the buttons to different functions.
I got this mouse of ebay, it came with a MS natural multimedia keyboard...

I bought the optical mouse for only £9.99 from Index (also available at the same price in Argos).
When I first used it, it felt weird using the optical mouse instead of the wheel mouse because of how smooth it is and that I got used to the wheel... more
