HP, the well known name in the computer and IT industry, has some large range of workstation products for every standard of business. Hp workstation xw series is a one kind of feature chain of computer products in which we have different kinds of configured desktop PCs. Workstations and desktop PCs are similar products but they have different names according to use and features. Workstation is kind of desktop PC with highly configured and advanced technology. Workstations are generally used in business and advanced processing industry where we need some very fast processing machine for heavy data process. If we take an example of film and advertisement industry, than there are very large number of processing units and they need very fast machine for editing all data. If they use general kind of desktop PC than they will require months and years to complete their work. So for that kind of heavy work we have some advanced technology and heavy configuration in desktop PCs which is called as workstations. Workstations are very costly as compare to desktop PCs and every one can’t afford this. Some of workstations have such a technology so that they can use multi processor in single machine. More than one processor in a single machine will provide very fast processing speed and performance.

There are many players in this high profile market with large number of products. Technology always keep growing and today’s product will be considered as out dated on tomorrow. So we see that every day new products launch and new technology reveal. Computer market is like a variable value and we always keep our hope alive for something better. Something better will always remain as something better and if we keep believe in this fact than we will never enjoy this. So don’t mind that what is tomorrow’s technology but enjoy the latest or today’s technology. If we keep a habit of living in a present than we will better enjoy our life.
I am going to discuss this workstation in detail with my little experience. I want to discuss all important point of this notebook with its design, processing speed and some suggestions also.

The workstation

The design of this workstation doesn’t matter, if you have interest in tower design than it is a perfect design. Tower design is a very popular design for computer industry and maximum PCs have this design. I also like this design only. There are nothing special with its size and weight, as it has a regular size and weight.

Processing Speed

Main important point for any computing machine is its processing speed. We don’t want any problem or obstruction in our routine work and it need good processing speed for computing machine. If we think this factor in business and corporate industry than they are working for other peoples and it really need machine with good speed and less time consuming factor for better profit in the market.
Processing speed depends on more than one hardware configuration. We will get better speed if there is a good processor, good capacity RAM installed, high speed graphics memory and latest chipset motherboard configuration.

So thinking about these entire configurations I want to discuss about this workstation and its configuration. First of all we have a look on its installed processor. Here we have very interesting configuration in terms of processor. There are two parallel processor have been installed with Intel Dual-Core Xeon X5260 series processors. The rated speed of this processor is about 3.33 GHz. This is a best processor available for heavy workstations. It has all important configurations like its dual core processing technology with 3.33 GHz of core speed. HP has installed two parallel processors for this workstation for high speed performance. 3.33 GHz speed is a very fast at the moment and for dual core technology, its performance is really superfast. Some other features for this processor are its front side data bus speed and cache memory. It has very fast 1333 MHz of front side data bus speed. We have seen in quad core processors that they have very fast king of bus speed with more than 1600 MHz but if we compare both of these processors than we will get better performance with Xeon processor. This workstation is also special due to its double configuration in terms of installed processors. 1033 MHz data bus speed is considered as very fast in dual core processors. We also require good combination speed with RAM to have better performance for data transfer speed. I will explain this combination in RAM section for this system.

Cache memory is another point of consideration. For quad core processors, this memory is very high as about 12 MB and more. This processor has excellent 12 MB of total cache memory. Here is a fact that, this system has two parallel processors installed and each processor has 6 MB of cache memory and total is about 12 MB. This is a perfect combination for high speed performance as we can get almost double processing speed with using two processors.
Second important point and feature for good processing speed is its RAM (random access memory). Hera this system has good capacity of RAM installed but it is slightly slower speed RAM and it has bad combination with this processor. System has total 4 GB of DDR2 SDRAM with 667 MHz of maximum speed support. This is not a good RAM for this system as I recommend that you should have DDR3 RAM with similar capacity or as according to your requirement. DDR2 technology RAM with 667 MHz is considered as an average RAM but this machine is not as average kind of machine and it should be provided with high speed DDR3 RAM with about 1333 MHz of speed as per processor bus speed.

We can upgrade this RAM capacity easily and there is an option to upgrade this capacity with up to 32 GB of total capacity. So if you want to have this system, than you can upgrade this RAM further for high configuration and better performance.
Another memory capacity is its internal strophe capacity and this is not so important point to discuss as we can easily put any required capacity hard disk drive for this system. This system also has one preinstalled hard disk drive but it is slightly different than usual.

One 80 GB standard Serial ATA hard disk drive is installed and very important feature of this hard disk is its speed with about 10000 rpm. Generally we have this speed with about 7200 rpm. This hard disk is not so special in terms of storage capacity but it is very special in terms of rpm speed.
Next memory that is very important for better performance is a graphic memory. This is a workstation machine and usually it requires best available graphics memory. HP has given its best with a good graphics card for this machine with NVIDIA Quadro NVS 290 graphics card and it had total graphics memory with 256 MB. Quadro series graphics cards are very costly but their performances in heavy applications are really very fast, so this machine has good graphs card also.

Performance

There is no doubt about the performance of this machine. This workstation has almost every required configuration for heavy applications and business use. It has two parallel processors good capacity of RAM and quadro graphics card. So it will definitely give us a best performance with every application. This system has been checked with some applications like Adobe premiere Pro, and there is no doubt that its performance was very fast and as per required capacity. Performance from some other 3D applications like Autodesk MAYA. 3ds max and Google sketch-up were very fast and there is no problem at all. Machine is a best for almost every latest application.
At last this is best Workstation for every kind of processing work in business and professional use. The cost of this workstation is really high due to its heavy configuration but the performance is according to your investment. This machine requires slightly improvement in terms of installed RAM and I recommend to have good capacity of DDR3 RAM for perfect combination. Overall this is a god workstation for your good business. Recommended.
