1. Battery Life is very poor. After running the phone for a week or so I ordered the extended battery ... ... Overall I wouldn't recommend this phone. When compared to the slick e-mail capability of a Blackberry or the touch friendly/easy to use iPhone/HTC, I couldn't recommend the HP Ipaq Data Messenger as a worthy alternative.
Hopefully HP will do better with their next release.... ... more
I am an IT Manager and having a phone which can handle documents/e-mails/calendar and internet browsing on the move is desirable. I chose the HP IPAQ Data Messenger, the new breed of IPAQ PDA/smartphone. It comes preloaded with Windows professional 6.1 including pocket word/excel and powerpoint. It boasts a touch screen with stylus etc. Although the phone is feature rich and has what you would expect of a PDA I think that there are a few problems:
1. Battery Life is very poor. After running the phone for a week or so I ordered the extended battery upgrade from HP. Even with the extended battery the phone will not last more than a day without being charged! Really poor for a device which is meant for travelers.
2. Bulky. The phone is bulky in my opinion, especially when you have to upgrade to the larger extended battery.
3. Interface. The windows 6.1 interface is not very touch friendly (although I realise that is not the fault of HP). Even using the stylus, its sometimes difficult to click on the right start menu items etc due to their small size. I have since found out that the HTC phones have put their own touch friendly interface on top of windows mobile 6.1 which looks a lot better. I also didn't find the optical controller very easy to use. A trackball interface like a blackberry may have been a better choice.
Overall I wouldn't recommend this phone. When compared to the slick e-mail capability of a Blackberry or the touch friendly/easy to use iPhone/HTC, I couldn't recommend the HP Ipaq Data Messenger as a worthy alternative.
Hopefully HP will do better with their next release....
