Travel overseas a lot with job, therefore opinions are usually concise due to slow machine, brain lack of time, etc. Love gadgets and gizmo's. Considered as a miserable old sod, hence screenname

I bought this PDA in Qatar recently whilst passing through. I once owned a HP Jornada but it was a serial connection which rendered it a bit slow synchronising with laptop etc. By comparison the iPAQ is a flyer using USB. My main use is a pocket PC, using Word, Excel and outlook calender, contact functions. All I may add function very well. A word of caution, if you are using Excel, certain formatting can get lost, i.e. merged cells. It comes with Pocket Windows 2003 installed along with Word, Excel, Outlook, Explorer, Internet Explorer, and a couple of games, Solitaire and Jawbreaker. Also installed is Windows Media player v9, which is very good for playing your music. The core memory is 64 megabytes, which is very good, nice fast access time. I bought a 128 megabyte SD memory card to expand my storage capabilty. One example of use, is I can put 2 CD's worth of MP3's on it and use it as a portable MP3 player. There is a wealth of stuff to download off the WWW for these devices. (A lot free as well). One of many usefull programmes is pocket streets, which there are many city maps available at Microsoft for downloading. Another usefull site is Avantgo.com, who allow you to connect via your internet connection and retrieve various information channels free of charge. In my case I use Rueters News, 4ThGame (English soccer news), The Guardian and the lottery channel. When I use the internet of a morning for mail etc. I synchronise with Avantgo, and I can read all this stuff at my leisure during the day offline on the PDA.
