First of all, for anyone looking to buy one of these, it's worth noting that this little gem is EXACTLY the same as the iPAQ H1945. The only difference between the H1940 and the H1945 is one was originally sold in the USA and the other destined for the European market.
Okay, now that we've resolved an issue that caused me great confusion, let's get down to business. This is a cracking little Pocket PC that should not be overlooked. It's a bargain price for a start; I picked up mine on eBay 2 years ago for £40! It's particularly sleek by comparison to lots of more expensive PDA's, slim and light too. The screen is great too with bright, vibrant colours. I've used this as a GPS unit mostly with the help of TomTom and a Bluetooth GPS receiver. It has no problems using TomTom Navigator 6 and with the help of a 2GB SD card has helped me navigate flawlessly through Europe.
The processor is more than capable for running said TomTom and other aplications at the same time (I play podcasts through it while driving). I've also used it to play several "power thirsty" games and browse the web (using a bluetooth wireless network) without problem.
It doesn't unfortunatly have WiFi or a built-in GPS receiver, but at this price, I can live without both. However, there are one or two problems with this device; firstly, you can't update the firmware to Windows 2003SE, which makes it somewhat less future proof. The second problem I have experienced is a problem with many PDA's, if the internal backup battery dies (which it eventually will) it means everytime you allow your iPAQ to run out of power from the main battery, all your documents/settings/programs vanish! You can purchase and replace the little watch-like internal battery, but it means taking apart your PDA. Something which most users would not be willing to do.
All in all though, it's an excellent PDA with many capabilities of more costly units. The backup battery problem is a pain, but shouldn't show its face until the unit is at least 3-4 years old, and is a problem with most Pocket PCs.
Highly recommended.

Advantages: A sexy toy, erm which does lots of important things too! Disadvantages: Can only use some of the functionality with people with compatible devices.
