I can recieve a signal on my PDA from my router but that's about it!! It won't let me surf the net, send emails or use msn messenger at all, and every owner of one of these PDAs has exactly the same problem. I have downloaded countless patches to try and solve this problem and been on coutless websites ... ...used because I have no use for it now.
The WLAN is complicated to use and when activated the battery life is near non-existent. The instruction manual also hardly helps you at all.
Too complicated and doesn't work - 2/10
***FINGERPRINT SCANNER***
This is cool. Another great feature that amazes your friends and gives you street cred!

I knew that this was what I wanted before I even acquired money for my birthday, so once I'd got the PDA (£350 off Ebay with a 256 SD Card) I was excited to say the least. As I began using it, I was amazed, and so were my friends, I picked it up from the post office on my way to school so everyone saw it whilst I was charging it up in my form room. The screen quality blew me away and it is feature packed, everything you could ever really want or need. One piece of software that came bundled with the PDA was Nevo, a program that used the IR port on the PDA to control any VCR, TV, DVD player, Xbox, Home Lighting system etc you wanted!!! This was the thing that amazed my friends even more, with the teachers trying to show the class a video, I would just pause it, rewind it or shut it off with the teacher not having a clue what was going on! The novelty of it all wore off though and to be honest, I'm quite bored with my PDA now, I've only had it 3 months and it really is for business use. It has 64MB RAM built in which enables you to save quite a lot of files and notes etc and an SD expansion slot for more memory. Also comes with a headphone jack and an expansion slot for various COMPAQ add-ons.
***BLUETOOTH***
Wonderful piece of technology, but how disappointed was I when I found out it wouldnt let bluetooth enabled mobile phones send it photos. How stupid is that?! It would only let me do that via Infra Red and that is just slow and old! The only tasks I could take part in using Bluetooth was accessing the files on my mates H5450 and sending him contacts through the phone book which again got a bit boring and tedious after a while. Relatively easy to use - 7/10
***WLAN / WiFi***
This is what I was looking forward to using. Browsing the net, sending emails and using MSN Messenger anywhere around the house using the WLAN on my PDA and my Wireless Router. Shouldn't have got my hopes up because the WLAN on this particular PDA is appalling. You only have to go to the HP COMPAQ customer support forums to see that. Basically it just doesn't work!!! And HP are not really doing anything about it. I can recieve a signal on my PDA from my router but that's about it!! It won't let me surf the net, send emails or use msn messenger at all, and every owner of one of these PDAs has exactly the same problem. I have downloaded countless patches to try and solve this problem and been on coutless websites but my router is still just sitting there not getting used because I have no use for it now.
It takes a while to learn how to use it properly but once you've completed the 'fingerprint training' a few times you should be fine. This feature, whilst being a gimmick, actually stops anyone else in the world accessing your information. Your fingerprint is unique and the PDA will only accept those fingerprints that you store in it. I have set mine up to read my fingerprint from startup so nobody can turn my PDA on without my permission. Great Feature - 8/10
***SOFTWARE***
I've already mentioned the Nevo software, but this PDA also comes with Pocket Word and Excel and has handwriting recognition, seeing as the screen is a touch screen. Also comes bundled with Windows Pocket Media Player, Solitaire, Address Book, Notes, Calender, iTask, MSN Messenger, Calculator and more. You also get a CD-ROM with lots more pieces of software that you can install on your PDA if you wish. I mainly use Pocket Media Player for all my music and videos, Pocket Word for all my schoolwork and iTask to keep a log of all my homework. Great Software - 8/10
If you have the money and want a gadget to impress then buy this PDA, but if you just need a PDA for work then you probably wont need all these features and could probably get just as much out of one of the cheaper models.
Advantages: Bluetooth, wifi, fingerprint scanner Disadvantages: short battery life, loose all programes if all power lost
We bought the H5450 off of ebay round about the beging of last year for £100 including postage which was a very good deal as this has been going for about £300 at times.
It only came with the power lead and sync cradle which can be used with USB or serial cable.
There was no software or active sync with this PDA but as with most things no adays they were easy to download from the net including the software to upgrade this to PC2003 standard.

Ereader which is microsofts ebook reading software so you can read a book on the way into work without having to take a paperback. And the usual stuff like outlook, excel and word are all on there. Plus there is about 64mb of memory for you to put your own software on, we have loaded TomTom 5 on ours ...

...of a previous model, the HP iPAQ H5550 (read my review). The unit fairs well with those of you who like to travel, the incorparated Wifi, enables the user, if required, to connect to the internet or a wireless LAN while drinking a coffee at the local Starbucks, where Wifi stations are mostly found. The Model features all the expected slots and gimmics that every other model on the market has. There is the Wifi, bluetooth, IR port, SD/MMC slots, fingerprint ... ...To tell you the truth there isn't anything special about the model, apart from its strange fingerprint scanner, but you can never be careful nowadays, in a world of hostile takeovers and economic downfall, you ae expected to put confindential information into it. Although everyone knows how equipment, especially scanners has a tendancy to fail, but in saying this the model i tried had a 9/10 success rate involving the scanner. It's just a little ...

HP iPAQ Pocket PC H5450 The Hewlett Packard IPAQ H5450 is one of the first PDA's ever supporting WIFI. It is one of the more older Pocket pc's still available today. This PDA also boosts Bluetooth An Ir for transferring files between devises. A fingerprint scanner for added security is also added which works very well indeed. the devise itself is strong and feels stable, the battery life is OK with at leased a full days use. This Pocket PC is definitely ...
