I enjoy the conveniences of modern life (gadgets!) and travel (sun & shopping!). I believe in getting good value for money when spending my hard earned cash, and though I believe you get what you pay for I love finding a bargain!

I bought this model because I wanted wifi for internet/email access on the go, and bluetooth to link to my mobile phone. The HX2490 has both and they are ridiculously easy to set up. The wifi connection takes a few taps of the stylus and bluetooth is even easier to turn on and off. Importantly the iPAQ clearly lets you know when either or both are on and it's easy and quick to turn them off again.
Once I started exploring the device I was amazed at all the software and features compared to my old Palm based PDA. The Media Player in particular is great on long flights (I put some movies on an SD Card) and the audio and video quality is much better than I expected, and there is also a reasonable range of games.
As well as the SD card slot there is also a Compact Flash slot for adding a GPS receiver or other accessories and, of course, a 3.5mm headphone socket
This iPAQ comes complete with Office Mobile and the versions of Word and Excel are familiar and easy to use. The on-screen keyboard is easy and the transcriber is very good at recognising handwriting when writing with the stylus.
The battery life is excellent, biggest power drain is the backlight on the screen but you can adjust this to reduce power, or turn it off (e.g. when listening to music). With careful adjustment of the backlight I used it fairly continuously for 5-6 hours on a flight to the USA and still had 45% power on arrival. On the couple of occasions I have let the battery drain (by accident!) I didn't lose anything as the Windows Mobile 5 operating system uses a small back up battery to prevent data loss.
I sync this PDA with a home and an office PC without any difficulty (no conflicts!) and have no hesitation in recommending this as a good all round PDA.

A helpful review , but I think that it needs a lot more information and detail to justify a higher rating. Reviewing a pocket pc needs lots of technical info. I think that you need to write every product Review as if you’re writing for someone who has virtually no knowledge of what you’re reviewing, in clear non technical language. You might find it helpful if you read and rate some other peoples’ reviews that have been rated VH or E. It might give you an idea of the sort of things you need to include. It might also be helpful if you had a look at the Ciao guides to writing Reviews and Rating I found them really useful. If I can be of any help feel free to put a note in my gb. Rich
