I bought my HX2490 from e-bay, fully boxed and unused. When it arrived I was pleasantly surprised. I had always been a palm user, and had decided to come across to Hp because of the ease with which word and excel documents will transfer onto it. The weight of it makes it feel like a quality product, and it was also good to have all the buttons where you can see them straight away without having to flip down the bottom like I did with the palm.
Because I use my Ipaq in a busy retail environment I immediately bought a metal case for it. I also added an SD card to add to the memory.
All the software is included and loads very easily, and the docking station makes the link up process very easy. All the included software works very well and is easy to find in the Windows based menus. I actually replaced Outlook mobile with the excellent Pocket Informant because of the extra tasks functionality that it adds.
I only have one gripe with the Ipaq. The first is the alarm. If you read anywhere on the internet, hundreds of users have had problems with the alarm on their Ipaqs. Mine basically stopped alarming after a couple of weeks. It still shows the message on the screen, but makes no noise. No good when you want to be reminded of an important meeting. Even when the alarm did work, it was incredibly quiet, and hardly enough to hear from my pocket in a noisy environment. I downloaded a program called alarm today, which has some louder alarms, and also put the not alarming problem right for a couple of weeks, but it now seems to have gone again. I don't know why Hp didn't include a vibrate function like with my Palm and on any phone. This would have made reminders a lot more useful.
Overall I was and still am very impressed with the HX2490. I know most of the review has been a moan, but just look through the feature list to see what is included. All of the features work superbly, and do exactly what they say. Even in the bashing I give this device every day it has stood up very well, it is just a shame about the alarm or it would have been a perfect five.
