HSBC’s student account is one of the best around and I know that from experience as I’ve been living as a student in Plymouth for almost two years now. You get all the benefits such as the essential interest free overdraft, low rate credit card, telephone banking and the all important incentive for joining HSBC. You get a £750 overdraft limit in the first year, £1000 in the second and £1500 in your final year of study. All you students maybe wondering why the banks are giving you all this free stuff to and try and tempt you to join them and pull from the jaws of the competition. The reason is simply because they believe if you start to bank with them at this age, you are more likely to use them for the rest of you life for all your mortgage and pension needs, hence making a good investment etc.

The only problem I have found banking with HSBC is when you want to get in touch with your local branch you have to go through the rigmarole of going through a central call centre before you get redirected to the branch you want to talk too which can take quite a lot of time and waiting in queue’s.

However I have found banking with HSBC quite easy and trouble free experience over the last couple of years. However when opening a student account make sure you look round for the one that has the best options for you, not just a funky free gift!
