I've had a HSBC 16-18 bank account for a few years now and I've been very happy with it. They sent me a cheque book and solo card automatically (although not a cheque guarantee) which are both useful. I've found that many places online take the solo card for orders, which is especially good.
Recently I've signed up for their internet and telephone banking service and I've been very impressed. You can log into your account at any time and view your statement, make direct transfers to pay bills or set up/cancel direct debits. It will remember people you've paid things to in the past to let you repeat the payments, and you can set the payment in the future if you want to wait until after money has gone into your account or something like that.
Overall I've found the service very good, and their internet services are great :)
UPDATE: Recently I thought it would be useful to get myself a credit card for a trip to the US. I imagined that getting one might be difficult, since I'm leaving my job for exams and so would have no signifcant income. However after a short phone call I was told that I could have a mastercard, with a credit limit of £500 without needing to be a second name on one of my parent's cards. I think this is a good thing, although now I have to restrict myself and stop myself spending too much!
The internet banking is also very useful for the credit card, since I can easily log in to my account and see how much I currently owe on the card and make a payment within a couple of minutes.
