Like many banks and building societies these days, HSBC is offering an online banking service. Very nice but what’s it all about eh?

Have you ever been in a situation where you need to transfer some funds or cancel a direct debit etc…and the only chance you get to do this is in your precious lunch break. So perhaps it begins with a drive in to town followed with the obligatory nightmare search for a parking space. And after all that you get to the bank only to be confronted with the mother of all queues! Basically all this means bye bye lunch.

If this scenario sounds familiar, then perhaps you should consider giving online banking a whirl. I signed up last week, and I only whish I had done sooner. It’s so simple, first of all you need to set up a security number, which you can do over the phone or in any HSBC branch. Now pay a visit to www.hsbc.co.uk and select the option to sign up for online banking, and follow the simple instructions. You will be issued with an identification number, which together with you security number provides the means to accessing your account info. Easypeasy!

Now you’re in you can check your statement, not only of your current account, but also that of any loans or savings accounts. You can move your money about, cancel debits, order payments etc.

Security might be an issue for you, but HSBC utilise a secure server (obviously), and I don’t know of any floors in it as yet. Really it’s safe trust me.

Right, now I’ve got my finances in order, I think I can take my time over lunch, Splendid!
