I have always banked with HSBC. I now have a student bank account with them, which is very good with a credit card and £1000 free overdraft. I regularly use the internet banking to keep an eye on my balance and payments going in and out. It's extremely easy to make payments to other accounts from the internet with payments to HSBC accounts happening immediately and payments to other banks clearing the same as cheques. It is also easy to set up and cancel satanding orders and to cancel direct debits. Your details such as address can be changed online as well. The security is very good but it does take a bit of time logging on until you get used to typing part of your password quickly. I also have a Nationwide account and find the HSBC internet banking a lot simpler to navigate round and use. HSBC do not charge you to withdraw cash from other banks' cash machines.
