Advantages Advantages Competitive, wide range, professional.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not a seamless service. Lack of branches.

I have banked with HSBC for the past few years and I must say that I am very happy with the service I have received so far. I will go through the products I have with them and let you know my thoughts! Student Account The student account is a really good account in comparison with the current market - some banks make the huge overdrafts the selling point, but HSBC are striving towards being a responsible lender, and they have all overdrafts based on status. Standard limit for a first year is £1000, 2nd year is £1250, third is £1500. Based on status, you may get more than those limit but they ... more

It’s a bit like a marriage isn’t it? You and your Bank get together, for better or worse. Sometimes it turns out well and everything’s idyllic. Sometimes you think it’s a cheating thug you’ve got married to, but most times you just bumble along. There are days when you seriously consider divorce; you may even flirt with other Banks, and then there’s the days when the Bank comes up trumps when you’re in a tight corner. HSBC (it’s known as Honkers and Shankers in the City!) and I go back to the days when it was The Midland Bank. It’ll be thirty five years this year. I don’t like to dash into ... more

Advantages Advantages A good bank when tailored to suit my needs.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Overcharging for use of cash machines.

I get pretty tired of people complaining about the services that their Bank offers them, without really trying to make the accounts that they chose to open work for them. I have been with HSBC for twenty years, and whilst not the perfect bank, it does cover my needs quite adequately, in that my bills are paid on a regular basis in an orderly manner, my statements arrive on time and are detailed enough to give me the information I need to know, and their Internet Banking service compares well against my other Banks, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Barclays. The problem stems from people not ... more

Advantages Advantages Use the phone or the Internet

Disadvantages Disadvantages Waiting times, nobody's perfect

Personal finance is very, very boring. Let me get this straight right away, I take no pleasure in comparing relative interest rates, browsing through small print or account hopping to get the best deal. I’m not interested in it. It’s dull. Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuull. I have better things on which to fritter away my time. So, if one of these august banking institutions can provide me a service that enables me to minimise the amount of time I have to interact with them, then I'm a very happy bunny. Many moons ago I opened up a current account with the Midland bank as it happened to be ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None yet!

Well, not sure how many of you have ever been as naughty as me with banks, let me tell you just how bad I am... It all started with my first real bank account at 16 (quite a few years ago now!) with Lloyds, I opened a standard current account and was not just given a cash card but a Switch card too! How lovely! Couldn't wait to go and use a debit card... how very grown up was that? So off I toddled to use this very special thing that had been issued to me and never even bothered checking balances. Needless to say I soon received letters to say I was overdrawn and shouldn't have been as they ... more

HSBC in New Zealand, Anyone has feedback?

Any negative or positive experience with HSBC NZ anyone? I have yet to decide; its attraction include International Banking ability. Down side is low saving/Term Depo interest rates. I've been reading reviews (especially negative). I feel more comfortable going with my local banks.
