As a member of HSBC (formally Midland), I feel that I have enough knowledge of the bank to tell people how good there bank accounts are.

******Value for money******

A fifty pound buffer zone – Although it is not all right to go overdrawn, HSBC allow members to go fifty pounds in the red, and no charge will be incurred.

No monthly fees on agreed overdrafts – You can agree an overdraft with them and only pay interest.

Free banking – Free banking means what it says in that no charges will be incurred on any of the following:
- Cheque books
- Paying in books
- Monthly statements
- Standing orders
- Direct Debits

Credit interest – This is interest paid on money in your account.

Free Financial Organiser – This helps you keep track of your money. It’s a big box file that you get upon joining with the bank. You can store your bank statements and bills along with important documents. This is very useful.

******Easy Access puts you in Control******

HSBC allows you to use your back how and when you wish.

24-hour access to your money – You can do the following via the banks 24-hour self- service machines.
- Withdraw cash
- Check your balance
- Ask for statements and mini-statements
- Pay bills
- Make payments to your accounts
- Transfer your money to and from your back account and linked savings accounts.

Telephone Banking – Using telephone banking you can control your money at the times that suit you. This service is easy to use, 100% secure and available 24-hours per day.
You can use it to do the following:
- Find out your account balance
- Transfer money between accounts
- Find out your latest transactions
- Pay bills
- Make payments to other members of the family and friends
- Speak to a customer services representative

To take advantage of this service, you will need to set up a security number when opening an account.

Customer Services – with customer services, you are able to do many things:
- Arrange account overdrafts
- Order monies for your holiday – travelers and foreign currency.
- Get further information on the services that HSBC offer.

******Money Management that is flexible******

HSBC offers us members the chance of managing our money with no problems. Whether paying money in to the account or using money it is a simple task.

Ways to pay – You can use your debit cards where you see the Switch or Maestro signs. Almost every has these signs.
The Switch card also guarantees cheques of up to 100 pounds.

Cash withdrawals – With HSBC you can withdraw up to 500 pounds every day. Withdrawals can be made from cash machines throughout the country. HSBC, NatWest, Clydesdale Bank, Ulster Bank and Isle of Man Bank. There is a one-pound charge to withdrawals made from other banks machines.
Wherever the Cirrus sign is shown withdrawals can be made from up to 400,000 cash machines worldwide.

Paying regular bills – You can pay bills using services that HSBC have to offer. Standing orders and Direct Debits are methods of paying bills to clubs or societies.

Taking advantage of your extra cash – With HSBC, you can transfer your spare cash automatically every month, which goes into another account. You can also transfer your cash by using your debit card using telephone banking, or you can contact the HSBC customer services.

******Account Opening guarantee******

Opening an account with HSBC is an efficient and reliable service. When I opened an account with them I received my debit card and cheque book in four days, but they promise to deliver within five days.
You are given a Personal Identification Number for use with your debit card on cash machines.
Standing orders and direct debits will be set up to the best of their abilities. However I have had a problem with with a direct debit I set up with them a year ago. They cancelled it after a year meaning payments that were coming out of my account to companies could not go through. But this should be sorted soon!!! The good thing about HSBC is that they pay 10 pounds to you every time they make a mistake.

******Other Services******

Fee-Free Credit CardMasterCard or Visa, the choice is yours!!!
The credit card allows you to buy goods or services throughout the world wherever you see the MasterCard or Visa signs. Using your Credit Card you can withdraw cash from cash machines or by visiting any major bank throughout the world in the UK or abroad
Protect your cards – you can protect your cards for a small fee. They will be protected for loss and loss of monies in the account up to a certain amount.

******To Conclude******

I would recommend this bank to anyone. Apparently they have an outstanding student account for university goers.
The services that they offer at HSBC are of an extremely high standard. Other banks services can be better, but I would rate this bank the best overall.
An Excellent bank, keep it up HSBC!!!

Good op. I would certainly agree about the student account - free rail card or £50 cash, plus annually increasing overdrafts! Fantastic... :)

Thanks a lot for this op, I am currently very unhappy with the service I am receiving from the royal bank of scotland, and looking to change my account in the summer. This is one bank I will have to investigate, your op was very comprehensive and helpful. Claire
