Kicks the iPhone into the long grass.

This is easily the best phone/PDA I've ever used or seen.

Last week I was sitting on a bus on Baker St, London, with this device. I was listening to music on
bluetooth stereo headphones, with TomTom navigator checking my ETA
with built-in GPS. I was typing two-thumbed on the slide out keyboard, with
a 3G data connection to the web and email. Someone sent me a link, and because of this phone I could click on the link and read the web page, image as well as text. All from one device that
goes into my pocket and that charges from a USB, so minimal stuff to
carry when travelling. While I was typing, the phone rang and I took the
call through the same headphones.

And the machine neither crashed nor ran out of memory.

Watch out for: versions of this phone from the phone companies. For example, this is also called the MDA Vario III by t-mobile. That unit has a smooth, shiny back. That makes it slide around on a table. The HTC unit has a slightly rubberised back, which doesn't slide and is easier to hold.

Also, synchronisation with WM6 and ActiveSync 4.5 is awkward and takes a lot of coaxing.

Also, don't use the provided version of Sprite Backup, it'll duplicate files on your machine and if you have 6000-odd PIM items, you'll get a 30 Mb pim.vol file that when duplicated will grind the machine to a halt. Use version 6, available direct from Spite, and you'll be fine.

Took me about a week to set the thing up, but once done, it's great.
