After not hearing much about HTC phones, I was actually delightfully surprised when I received my new Wildfire S in the post. Being small and lightweight with a large screen, it was ideal for me as I always carry my phone in my pocket and in the past, I have had phones that weighed me down and felt bulky even to the point of discomfort. Aside from this, another feature that appealed to me was the fact it was completely touch screen which meant no grubby looking buttons after a few months. The only downfall I would say is the touch screen keypad because the characters are quite small and not all that suitable for those of us with fatter thumbs and fingers. All is not lost though as most of the apps support a smart predictive text system. The phone has all the standard features you would expect: SMS, MMS, internet and voice calls etc. however being an Android handset, it has limitless extras. The front screen or wallpapers are bright and seem to have a cheerful quality. The browser is lightning fast, the best I've used actually as it displays every site I've been on with amazing clarity and no errors. The applications that come with the phone are great but the thousands you can download from the Android Market leave little to desire. And you can forget about missing out on socialising with friends and family. It includes apps for all the networks going such as Facebook, Twitter and Flickr. The camera is a very respectable 5MP and the camcorder is of reasonable quality even when recording from a distance. The picture gallery, music and video playback softwares are not too bad either. Now the satellite navigation system is one HTC can be proud of. Without fail, it has directed me to every destination with pinpoint precision. Plus there's this nifty little program called Maps which can take you through directions and give pretty detailed information about places to visit for business or pleasure. Overall the Wildfire S is a fantastic phone, easy and enjoyable to use. The next time I am due for an upgrade on my contract I will definitely be looking at the HTCs first.
