CA-5555 Car Audio MP3 Player The CD has a standard fitting and it was very easy to fit into my Ford Mondeo Mrk1. A cage is provided to facilitate the fitting. You also get a set of removal keys to help with the removal of the unit if you need to do that. The ISO connector provided makes the connection to the audio speakers a piece of cake provide you get the correct wiring harness for your car if the car has not got an ISO connector. I rewired mine and all I had to provide was the +12Volt (permanent to battery) , switched +12Volt (Ignition Key) and Ground. The other connections were the 8 wires for the 4 speakers. If your car has an ISO connector you just plug it in ... as easy as that. There is connectors for a preamp connection and a subwoofer if you need them. Also a Mobile Mute facility (the audio is muted when the mobile is activated) and an Aerial signal. You also get AUX input in case you want to feed some other input (DVD Player, Mobile phone).
Once fitted my unit worked first time. The Radio: Use BAND button to change to FM1 FM2 FM3 AM1 AM2. This means you can store 30 stations . Comes with RDS and has all the usual TA (Traffic Announcements) and TP (Traffic Program Identification). The AMS button (Auto memory store) will scan the preset stations, if you hold for 2 seconds this scans the 6 strongest signal stations and stores into the preset buttons 1-6. If you can get an FM station that provides time this can be set manually by using the DISP button (hold for 2 seconds) and adjust using the dial. Stations can be tuned manually and stored as well. The radio works well and is easy to use. AF is great if your are travelling as it picks up an Alternate Frequency of the same station ID. There are too many features to mention in this write up. The manual is OK and easy to understand. This can be download from the web site beforehand to see how it all fits and is operated.
CD Player: You need to release the display to access the cd slot. This again is easy just push the PANEL OPEN button and the front lowers down. By the way this reveals a reset button if the unit needs to be reset. I have played many different format CDs using this unit and all worked, even a CD which had not been finished off. This unit can cope with that. Also multi session CDs. I also tried a DVD full of MP3s but alas that gave DISC ERROR as expected... no harm in trying. COmes with usual facilities as track search, skip, and IDv2 By the way the 45W per channel sound is excellent. Comes with loudness and the usual ROCK, CLASSIC, FLAT etc choice of sound modes. If you have woofer with an amplifier in your car an output for that is provided.I don't have one so have not tried that output.
USB and SD: I tested these using a SONY 256mB flash drive (USB2.0) and an SD Card 256mB, both discovered all the MP3 on these memory devices amongst a heap of other excel and word documents. No issues there but there are a few warnings as what you can and cannot do in terms of MP3s in the manual. For example the prefferred sampling rate is 128kbps, maximum mp3 per disc is 447 files. There are a few things which you may use but I have not bothered with ... MP3 title searches to locate a track is one of them. This unit has a many MP3 features and works well. 100% OK with this at present. The volume control has a BEEP noise when turned up/down. This irritated me and had to delve into the manual to find out how to turn it off. The manual mentions a remote control unit but none is provided as standard and it is not listed as an optional extra but would you need a remote ? The front panel can be removed for security reasons. You have to pull the panel off once you move it left or right. This is a bit weird and needs getting used to. My overall assessment of this unit is that it is great value for money. I bought mine from SAVASTORE for which there is a link CIAO. It cost me £82 including postage.

Spent ages trying to find a car cd player that had a mp3 slot available. Found this one in the end and thought it looked really quite stylish. So went ahead and ordered. Once it had arrived i was really really immpressed. It looks really smart and sophisticated. I thought id need my Dad's help installing it in my car, but they provide you with basic but understandable instuctions for insallation and i had no problems what so ever. Once all on and ... ...for a nice long drive to check out the sound quality and boy was i impressed. Obviously it does depend on the speakers you have but mine are standard ford escort speakers and the sound quality was very impressive. No cracking or muffled sound, all crystal clear. I love the SD card slot that you can use, as wel as the MP3 slot that you can plug an MP3 into. Saves so much space when it comes to CD's lying everywhere and you can store so much more info ...
