So, what does a girl do?! Well, if you're like me to go to H&M.
H&M stands for Hennes and Mauritz or generally known as just Hennes and can be found all over. Long gone are the days where there was one Hennes on Oxford Street - now there are at least five between Oxford Circus and Marble Arch! They're also found elsewhere all over the country just to keep people like me feeling at home when visiting friends and family and to make sure you never miss out on a shopping oppertunity!
One of the great things about Hennes is it's range of clothes: it has an impressive range of styles, sizes and items. When I say items, yes I do mean trousers and t-shirts, skirts and jumpers, shirts and coats, because although it may seem trivial, it's great to be able to do all your shopping in the one shop. Hennes not only does all the above, but also underwear, including socks and tights; accessories, like bags and hairbands; and jewellery, from the plain silver necklaces to fluerescent yellow, pink and green hoops.
On to sizes, there are a few cons with the pros here. Although it does stock sizes 6 - 20 in most of it's clothes, the sizes of clothes can be quite unreliable at times. This isn't helped by some of it's ranges being in European sizes (note: the business/formal ranges), eg. size 36; some being in sizes XS - XXL (note: the younger people's ranges); and the children's ranges (although small adults will fit these and you won't be the first to try!) being sized by height (up to 164cm). However, there are charts to translate these into 'normal' sizes and after a couple of visits, you'll be well used to the system.
Their styles, which I gave a few examples of above, are very good and there is a large range. They do men's, women's and children's clothing, which includes a section for pregnant women and one for babies/very young infants. The women's clothing also includes a young people's range, business/formal range, the latest fashions and a casual range, each which include things for most tastes.
The prices of Hennes clothing is another major plus, because although the prices vary for each range and item, it is always very reasonable and cheaper than most other shops. Their sales are also something to look out for! Get in there quick though because things go fast and be prepared for the crowds, bustle and mess of a popular market and the long, long queues. It is worth it though because they are extremely generous with their sales - I once got a t-shirt for 49p!! On a normal day, it is still fairly filled with people and there are large queues but the queues are quite organised. Just be prepared to be pushed and shoved if you are shopping in a main area at the weekend!
Lastly I guess I just better mention the quality of the clothing. It's excellent! I know that when I buy something from Hennes, that it is going to last me years of frequent wear - although I usually grow out of things before then. The quality is fantastic though and all my Hennes stuff gets passed down to my niece for her to wear and it doesn't look scruffy, dated, worn or anything.
Hmmm... Well I guess I have summed up the excellence of this shop and would recommend it to anyone who wants cool clothes, without labels and for a decent price.
Advantages: Incredible Clothes Disadvantages: Big Queues
Whatever I'm looking for, for whatever occasion and on whatever budget, I know that I can always find it in H+M. I visit the store nearest to me, which is in Leeds. There are four floors(Yes, four!) of fashion for men, women and children. I generally shop in the women's departments as I am a girl, but there are sub-departments in the store. First of all, my favourite-Accessories. This range caters for every style and taste, all extremely reasonably ... ...hair such as rosettes and corsages, to basics such as hair elastics and alice bands. They now also do a range of wigs and fum hairpieces, such as clip-on ponytails and coloured hairstreaks. Their jewellry range is extensive, from plastic bangles to gold-effect earrings and fabulous silver chokers. Also available is a huge range of bags, hats, scarves and gloves from high fashion sophistication to utility and skater-style knittes scarves and gloves.

Advantages: Good selection of clothes at good prices Disadvantages: Queues
...and other London branches of H & M it is better to go in at a quiet time. I would recommend Sunday as a very good time to shop here, as there are rarely queues then.
The most important consideration is the price. The clothes here are up to the minute and cost very little. A pair of trousers and a T-shirt can cost as little as £10 each and sometimes even less. The quality is good too, although I would suggest taking a quick look at seams and finishing ... ...proper treatment is rare. H and M do have a code of conduct about the suppliers they use, and their treatment of their workers. It is published on their website.
Information is also available on where H & M stores are, and the ranges that are on offer in the individual stores. Not all stores carry the complete ranges that H & M produce so it is a good idea to check the website, or telephone your local shop for information on their stock.

Advantages: Extensive range, helpfull staff Disadvantages: Miles away from me!
...too! I discovered H & M purely by accident a few weekends ago. I was in the mood to give my credit card a severe battering so I was out at Fort Kinnaird on the outskirts of Edinburgh looking for an Etam store as I always find something I like in there.(Those of you who know me will realise that I am no Kate Moss, it is hard to find shirts that will go over my boobs!)
Well, traipsed all the way up there, only to discover Etam wasn't open yet. Cue ... ...telling me about H & M being up here so I wandered around till I found it. Upon walking into the store, I saw it was much like any other GAP wannabe store, all shiny floors and strange looking assistants! Put me off a bit, until that is, I saw the size of the shop. Absolutely huge! Half the store is womanswear and the other half is divided between menswear and childrenswear. (great fun scaring my husband by cooing over the baby clothes) The atmosphere ...

Advantages: prices, ease of return, quality of clothes. Disadvantages: Not in all towns
As it was my day off today and also my friend's day off we decided to meet up in town and do our shopping and have a coffee.
Living in Coventry, we have just had a small new undercover arcade of shops built and one that has already opened is H&M. Now I don't normally buy myself that many clothes, but am slowly treating myself to some new ones after having 6 years off work to look after my son. We decided to go in H&M and have a look as my friend ... ...Retail Village) had heard that they were good value.
First impressions of the shop were favorable. Big shop, good lighting, quite natural and airy. The gents and the children's section was downstairs and the ladies (as per usual) was upstairs.
We headed upstairs first and had a browse. We were both instantly taken aback by the choice, an inparticular, the cost of the clothes. They are so reasonable. The clothes were either up to the minute fashions, ...

Advantages: top trends, less mainstream than Topshop, good value Disadvantages: long queues
I have issues with those people who seem to think one can only be a true fashion-concious up-to-the-minute funky stylish lady if you shop in obscure, expensive, designer shops or actually make your own clothes. Well move over Chloe Sevigny, you may have a louis Vuitton 1980's revival bum-bag(once naff, now the epitome of trendiness, but only for the next few days, then it will once more be passe)and money to burn, but I, my friends, have H&M.And ... ...the Leeds branch) is constantly heaving, with endless queues for both changing rooms and tills, and slightly messy displays, all this can be overlooked due to the cheapness, quality and straight off the catwalk looks that are availiable instore.
The "divided" range for teens and young people is exceptional, fun and funky, with trendy T-shirts avaliable for as little as £3, and very few items over £25. For the more mature woman Hennes and Mauritz ...

Advantages: Hip clothes at bargain basement prices! / best changing rooms Disadvantages: Get your clothes free if you find a member of staff anywhere apart from the checkout / trousers are HUGE / some items are bad quality
recognition & are unironable...
- the scratchy woollens are best avoided as they will annoy you & probably give you a rash
- the really thin & soft knitwear & alot of the cotton tops / t-shirts need to be washed carefully, otherwise they will get shorter & wider with each wash...
- and make sure you stay away from any items which look even remotely like bin liners & look carefully at spangly shiny items which will look even more camp in a club... [but this goes for any shop]
Still i have a few items from H & M which i wear all the time and are great quality. Also the range of trousers which are always available with a slight tweak or another look like they will last forever.. so follow the guidelines & you'll be fine.
Caution
One general statement is that more outrageous does NOT mean more fashionable. Remember minimalism... although ...

Advantages: Saves the lives of our Feline Friends. Sells more sweets to children Disadvantages: Dispells the "1000 years" myth
confess. I?ve fallen in love with a couple of Swedish blokes called Hennes and Mauritz. Better known as H&M to the Speak loud and Slow English tourist types.
Being male, I?m going to concentrate on the menswear section. Only because I?m at the start of trying to build what I hope will be a fantastic relationship with a girl and I don?t think it would go down too well if I threw in transvestism as a topic of conversation.
H&M have been trading for over 50 years altogether, although I personally have only been fully aware of their brilliance for the last 2 years.
The shops are split into defined areas, Adult, Children, Lingerie and accessories. And each section has subsections.
Think Battenburg cake. Marzipan walls, pink for womens, yellow for men. You get the idea. Do not expect to walk into a high street near you and see a marzipan ...

Advantages: Cool, Cheap Disadvantages: Some dodgy clothing
H&M is a fashion store containing clothes for both men and women aswell as children.
It can be found on the high street in most cities in the U.K. and in large shopping centres.
What I like best about H&M is that they have their own designs that aren't 'run of the mill' like the clothes at Top Man, Next and Burton.
They have lots of variety, and aren't afraid to sell more risque clothing to the public!
Don't be suprised to see lots of pink clothing in the men's section - You haven't got lost!
Much of the clothing would be restricted to friday nights only, but there is plenty of groovy gear for the day time also.
It is all of a reasonably good quality, and lasts well.
If you're thinking 'this sounds great, but how much is it all going to cost?' don't despair - prices are superb!
A trendy shirt will only cost you about ...
