Well, now that I've figured out that what Haagen-Dazs calls "Praline & Cream" in the UK is what they call "Crème Caramel Pecan" in the US, I can finally write this op!
We all know that Haagen-Dazs makes some of the finest ice creams on the market today, and are now produced and sold all over the world. They can, therefore, charge a bit more (if not a lot more) for their products than the local brands such as Walls, ASDA or even Cadbury ice creams. But the question is, are these ice creams worth the extra pence? Here's what I have to say about this.
First of all, I should tell you that I'm not reviewing one of the chocolate flavors here, although I am a real chocolate addict. The reason for this is, I've become spoiled and even Haagen-Dazs hasn't been able to equal the experience of eating a chocolate "Gelato" in Rome. No - there is just no commercially produced chocolate ice cream that comes close. And anyway, my husband isn't much of a chocolate person (leaving more for me, of course), so when we buy a fancy ice cream, we tend to try to find one that everyone in the house can enjoy. Praline & Cream (or, as we get it here, Crème Caramel Pecan) is often the one we choose when we decide to splurge on a pint (or 500ml tub) of Haagen-Dazs.
You should know that Haagen-Dazs ice creams are a good bit softer than most mass-produced ice creams that aren't in the "soft" category. This is because of the high butter-fat content in the milk that they use. In fact, Haagen-Dazs doesn't use milk at all, but rather uses the real thing - fresh cream. So, when you open this product, you'll find it fairly easy to scoop it out, even if you take it directly out of the freezer (with the door still open and your head inside - much the way I often do <G>).
However, this ice cream is not whipped up with lots of air in it like "soft scoop" ice creams, and when you dig in, you'll get a truly loaded spoon of this product and not some light-weight batch of air. This makes for a very smooth textured ice cream that has just enough body to it so that you'll feel that you're putting something very creamy into your mouth and not something watery that came off an ice lolly.
The scent that you'll smell when you open this is primarily of the caramel. Caramel is basically browned (almost burnt) sugar and cream. This may make you think that this product smells very, very sweet, but it doesn't really. The spicy vanilla seems to lessen the sweetness of this product and you certainly won't feel that there is anything sickly in the smell of this ice cream. In all, a very creamily scented ice cream that isn't in the least artificial.
The famous packages are very attractive with their deep red which is almost brown, mixed with lots of gold in either a filigree pattern or solid, like around the lip of the tub. Each flavour has a picture on the front which indicates what extras are in the ice cream that make up that particular flavor. For instance, this one has a picture of pecans that have been splashed with caramel sauce on them - very appetizing!
This particular flavor is one that we love for many reasons. First of all, the vanilla ice cream is a pale cream color, which indicates to me that the product would have a buttery flavour - and so it does. Next, mixed with this buttery vanilla ice cream are swirls of caramel flavored toffee that is a very silky texture, and although quite sweet, not overpoweringly so. In addition to this, are lots of nice sized chunks of what seem like freshly caramelised pecans. This combination gives you the feeling that you are eating something chunky as well as smooth and creamy. And I just adore this mixture of sensations in my mouth - its like having an ice cream sundae pre-prepared in a tub. You know, the ice cream, the sauce and the nut topping. Pretty nifty, no?
Just a quick word about the nuts here. I've tried many different ice creams that have nuts in them, and sometimes with pecans or walnuts, you can bite into one that tastes sour or old. I've never had that happen to me when I eat this brand of Haagen-Dazs, and for me, that certainly attests to the quality of their products. With that in mind, I have to say that I'm willing to pay the extra (even a whole lot extra, like you do for this ice cream) to feel like I'm consuming a truly excellent product. So, hang the cost, I say!
There are, however, two large drawbacks to this product.
One is, of course, that it is terribly, terribly fattening. One could say that this is probably the reason why you buy these in only 500ml tubs and not huge kilo ones - so you don't eat as much. And we know that these ice creams also come in 100ml mini-cups for those who can't control their urges even to leaving some of that 500ml in the freezer for the next time.
The other drawback is that, well, even the 500ml tub seems to finish way, way too soon. This is such a "moreish" product, that once you start, you'll have a pretty hard time stopping yourself. You could say here as well, that the high price is what will keep you from buying too much of this, so that no matter how "moreish" it is, you'll be deterred from stocking up on many of these and then finishing them all in one go.
So, you see, there are some positive aspects to even the drawbacks for this product.
All that’s left for me to tell you is what is the best way to enjoy this ice cream. Personally, I think that you should enjoy it very, very slowly, eating it in small spoonfuls while rolling it around in your mouth. That, and alone - yes, totally and completely alone, because if there’s someone else around, you’ll just have to share it with them, and trust me, once you’ve tasted this flavour of Haagen-Dazs, you’re not going to want anyone else to get their hands on it!
In conclusion, all I have to say is - INDULGE!
***** Technical stuff: I found this ice cream costs £3.27 at ASDA for a 500ml tub, which is 65.4p per 100ml - that's pretty expensive in my book.
Their web page can be found at http://www.haagen-dazs.co.uk/

I'm not supposed to list the ingredients, but the "Praline" in the name means that there are pecans in this product, and therefore would not be suitable to those people who are allergic to nuts. It also has real eggs, and I know there are some people who are strict vegetarians who do eat milk products, but not eggs - so this wouldn't be suitable for them. Other than this, I don't see any reason why this product wouldn't be suitable to vegetarians. *****

Review of Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream, Praline and Cream
Advantages: This is God's presence on Earth Disadvantages: If this was all I ate, I would die horribly.
If I were of any influence in this cold and desperate world, then I would banish this particular luxury from existance. Why? Because, it's just too damn fine.
I cry myself to sleep thinking about Haagen Dazs Praline & Cream. 'If only it were human', I sob into the heartless pillow, 'And I would have the perfect bride...'
Giving this ice-cream to a fat man like myself, is like giving a gun to a particularly anti-social four year old: irresposible, ... ...none too healthy and there is nothing else like it. This dessert will be the death of me.
A 500ml tub (because anything smaller would just be silly) is filled to the top with thick white ice-cream, clumps of unbelievably sticky caramel and chips of caramelised pecan nuts. The packaging is a good, sturdy cardboard container, coated in plastic with a plastic lid (try not to eat this as well.) Usually identifiable by the huge Haagen Dazs lettering ...

...chill with a tub of Haagen-Dazs Pralines & Cream. Yumshuss.
I usually buy Yorkshire Dales ice-cream as it’s cheaper and of a very high quality but lately I’ve felt the need to pamper myself and go the hole hog with this delightful stuff.
Very satisfying for the tastes buds, in fact I would go so far as to say it’s a veritable taste sensation. What I love about this stuff is the creamy texture of the ice-cream and swirls of caramel which melt lovingly ... ...well what can I say but WOW. The nuts have been caramelised to add that extra crunch and taste, which all adds up to a really fabulous ice-cream experience (okay this may sound a bit over the top but give me a break – I don’t get out much these days, lol).
The caramel tastes like maple syrup to which is also a favourite of mine. If your on a diet (which I’m obviously not as I’m eating at least two tubs a week, naughty, naughty) then avoid this treat ...

Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream, Praline and Cream
Pleasure is the path to joy, so the advert tells us. Well damn me, if the path to joy is this good, who needs heaven when they die?
We all have our favourite and not-so-favourite ice creams, and this has got to be my number one, without doubt. I grew up with vanilla ice cream, and Neopolitan ice cream as a treat (Cor, remember that?!), but I only remember Haagen-Dazs being available from ... ...Being a skint kid, as I was, I was reluctant to shell out so much more money for a small tub of ice cream, when I knew I could get a lot more, for a lot less, of a less fancy brand.
As time went on, however, I found that I wanted more. Ice cream is great, but if you have it all the time, it can get boring, so you need to add something to the ice cream to make it better. (I know you’re all drawing your own similes here, but stick with me, ok, as ...

Advantages: Perfect therapy at the end of a hard day. Disadvantages: Too much indulgence usually stays with you...on your hips and thighs for example!
It’s Tuesday night....it’s 6.30……it's been a long day at the office.....but...it’s Haagen Dazs night!!!!! Every Tuesday night for me is spent with my very best friend, Batman (alias Cathie). We go to our local cinema, choose a good film and induuuuuulge! It’s the best therapy after a hard day’s work.
Haagen Dazs has to be the best make of ice cream on the market. It has the creamiest texture without being sickly or too sweet. Pralines and Cream ... ...which are surrounded by creamy vanilla heaven. The best way to savour the wonderful flavour is to take a mouthful and suck off the outside ice cream…..then you’re left with CRUNCH!
Batman prefers her Pralines and Cream covered in hot butterscotch sauce. For me this is too sweet and only masks the delectable ice cream underneath. However,I often have a second flavour with it…..usually Macadamia Nut Crunch. The two scoop cup is a generous portion. ...

I usually always opt for low fat ice cream products...with one exception.............
When it comes to decadence in a tub - Hagaan Daazs wins hands down.
The premise of Hagaan Dazs is that they only use the best quality ingredients in their products and it shows!
This time I'm reviewing Pralines and Cream but every other flavour lives up to the same high standard (Strawberry Shortcake is perfect for Summer).
Onto the Product

... ...cream with generous swirls of not too runny caramel sauce. It's also laced with caramelised whole pecan nuts (yummy). You know what they say…the best ideas are the simplest ones…… and they were right!
The thick ice cream is incredibly creamy and you can tell that vanilla pods (as opposed to synthetic flavour) have been used in the product. The ice cream compliments the caramel well and there are tons of pecans in each tub. But, although it sounds ...

haagen's adiction...
I really recommend this producto to anyone who loves chocolate. If you just like chocolate, I'd say you'll like this one too, but you could also find this purity is a bit too high... Anyway, give it a chance, and don't say NO looking at the price of this product (the worst thing of this brand).
Finally, I'd like to say this haagen's got another diferents flavours, like HaagenDazs Cookies and cream, HaagenDazs Creme caramel pecan, HaagenDazs Sorbet-chocolate, HaagenDazs Baileys icecream, HaagenDazs cookie dough, HaagenDazs vanilla caramel brownie, HaagenDazs Vanilla icecream, HaagenDazs Banoffee caramel pie, HaagenDazs Choc choc chip icecream, HaagenDazsicecream dairy cookies and cream, HaagenDazsicecream lemon cheesecake, HaagenDazsicecreampraline and cream and HaagenDazs strawberry ...
This ice-cream is just lovely and it makes a great special treat.
The flavour of the baileys is very subtle and combines well with the creamy flavour. It should be eaten alone and enjoyed slowly! There isn't enough Baileys in the ice-cream to have any alcoholic effect which might be a good or a bad thing depending how you view it.
it smells yummy and doesn't leave a nasty after tatse.
It isn's too sweet to taste which is why I love this but it sure is high in clalories so it might be best just to have a little bit at a time.
It is also pretty expensive at about £4 for a tub in the supermarket. You can also buy in in the HaagenDazs cafe but expect to pay a small fortune. £2 for a small tub.
HaagenDazs do loads of other great ice-creams including pralines and cream and srawberry cheesecake, just as ...
Advantages: Pure, smooth, nice taste and creamy texture. Disadvantages: Bland packaging, not good if you like your ice-cream fancy, probably makes you fat if you eat too much.
cream are flavoured, the plainest being vanilla, but none of them are flavourless, pure ice-cream; this is what Mackies Traditional icecream is.
///Taste///
If Jeremy Clarkson was to write a review on a designer icecream (say HaagenDazsPralines & Cream), he?d say that it had enough of a sugary taste to decay a whole generation of children?s teeth, with strange bits and pieces inside that cause a change of texture as often as David Beckham changes his hair style.
But what about Mackies? He?d say it was ?just creamy with no artificial flavourings or preservatives. But that?s not a bad thing?.?
You see the light taste is like tasting a fragrant cream, it?s flowery, revitalising and very addictive, and you won?t feel you need to gargle afterwards like eating some flavours of designer ice-creams. It?s a little different to the taste ...
