I bought a Habitrailcage and accessories for my hamsters, and have mixed feelings about it. What I got was the "safari" cage with lots of tube attachements and extra "space station"-type room, bedroom and maze unit.
The thing that attracted me to it was the fat that it wasn't an obtrusive colour, like a lot of hamster cages can be (it's predominantly khaki green), it fits in well with my lounge, and looked like good fun for my hamsters.
It fits together really snugly, and I have to say that it's quite difficult to separate the tubes from eachother, as they're connected by little rubber rings, and it takes leverage from a knife or other impliment to get them apart for cleaning.
Both the hamsters loved the fact that although it was a cage, there were attached tubes to the bedroom and so they were both able to have space, and burrow in their tunnels too. The wheel in the cage is the best I've seen too, as it's a generous size and has got a curved edge which helps the hamster stay in it, and it's really quiet too, they love it.
The cage itself isn't all bars either (some of it is plastic), and the ones that are there are horozontal, which is good as it minimises gnawing (hamsters can't get as good a grip on horizontal bars as they can vertical ones), and still enables them to climb.
All in all, it's great, but I wouldn't recommend buying the maze unit if your hamster is on the large side. I have two hamsters, and the smaller, more agile one loves the maze unit to bits, and it's really exciting to watch her play in it. But my bigger hamster gets realy frightened, and crys if he's put in it as he can't move very easily, and gets stressed.
All in all it's a fantastic unit, and hamsters love it.

Informative and explain the downsides for larger hamsters. We have Syrians (the larger ones) and was about to buy the maze - but I won't do now as she panicks when you sit on the couch let alone squished in a maze. Thanks
