When I decided it was time that "Foley" needed a new cage, I decided to get him something a little more exciting than your usual run-of-the-mill metal bars style home. I got him a habitrail. The safari cage comes complete with stickers to give your hamster's new home a distinctly, well, odd look. However, the tunels and runs that he had were much more greatly appreciated. With seperate "apartments" for sleeping, eating, and playing, as well as a quality wheel which, thankfully, made nowhere near as much noise as it's predecessors, Foley was in hamster heaven. Even better is the fact that, with numerous tunels, and just about endless configurations for your various sections, you can change the hamster's house if you like. And if you choose to leave it exactly as it is to start with, well, then that is just like the hamster's natural habitat. The hamster will gain a great deal from this style of house - firstly, by placing his food and bedding in areas of the house where he would not usually use them, he can be encouraged to forage, as he would have to in the wild. On top of this, the hamster has more room to move around in, and is not restricted to using his wheel for exercise. Although the cage was originally quite tricky to assemble, once you have the hang of it, it is not a problem. Added to this the fact that cleaning is easy, and you have the perfect habitat for a happy hamster.

Good opinion, but I'd like to know where can you get it and how much does it cost?

Glad to hear Foley's enjoying his new home. I bought a massive ferret cage recently for my 5 rats. It has tubes going out and over the top of the cage and back in again. Now my main problem is trying to coax the little devils out of the tubes so I can take them out of the cage to clean it!

I hadn't heard of this kind of cage before, and sincee my last hamster died several years ago I didn't look around anymore. but this great op almost makes me go and get a new hamster, together with this cage. Thanks for the info. Cheers, Hans
